( photo by Dave Sykes ) Construction deadline may not be met Wingham residents may have to pray so the Huron -Perth Separate School Board can meet its June deadline for construction at Sacred Heart Separate School. Board chairman Ronald Murray of RR1 Dublin said the board is "happy to get the money" to undertake the construction pro- ject but, at its Nov. 14 meeting, some board members were uneasy wondering if the completion date could be met. "I wish it every success in the world, but it doesn't look good," commented trustee Louis Maloney of Dublin. The board recently received approval to add one new classroom, a library resource area and a stage in the gym under the Canada -Ontario Employment Development (COED) program. The total cost of the pro- . ject is $161,500 with the provincial and federal governments kicking in $68,620 and Branch plans fund draw A board meeting of the Huronia Branch of the Ontario Humane Society was held on November 15 in Goderich. The nominating committee presented a report to the board regarding the upcoming board of directors election. The election will be held at the annual general meeting in January. A fund-raising draw for a Commodore Vic -20 computer and data set was organiz- ed. Tickets will be $1 each and available at the Suncoast Mall on November 26, at Clin- ton Taxi, and from the board members. The draw will be held December 17 at 4 p.m. at the Suncoast Mall, Goderich. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to the shelter fund. The board of directors for the Huronia branch has requested that the Ontario Humane Society enter into negotiations for the purchase of land for a shelter in the Goderich area. The next board meeting will be held on December 7. Ladies plan bake sale At the Alexandra Marine and General Hospital Auxiliary meeting on Monday, November 21, plans were made for a craft and bake sale to be held in the auxiliary room of the hospital on Friday, December 2 at 1:36 p.m. The hospital gift shop is well stocked with children's clothing and special Christmas gift articles. The next meeting of the Auxiliary will be held on Monday, January 16. Ron Pennington speaks to Club The regular meeting of the Goderich Rotary Club was held Tuesday, November 22 with President Craig Cass presiding. A very positive report of the Club's annual charity ball was given. Ninety-five per cent of the Club members participated and the community also gave good assistance. John Banter introduced the guest speaker, a well-known local wheelsman, Ron Pen- nington. He gave a graphic story of the Great Storm which took place in November, 1913, saying that the loss of lives and ships was most severe in the south Lake Huron area. The disaster was caused by winds of 80 miles per hour on the Lake. Thanks to Mr. Pennington, Goderich has recognized the memory of those lost in that storm with an annual service held in November. He was thanked by Rotarian Rick Palls. NEWBORN NEWS the board paying $92,880. The board's share will be debentured. When trustees have made final decisions, details will be released. "The money came after a lot of discussion with Ramsey (Hon. Russell Ramsey, Minister of Labor)," stated Mr. Murray. Trustees fired questions at administration regarding the board's ability to complete the project by June. It was noted that the government `funds under COED have to be spent by June. "The government didn't give us any more time," commented trustee Vincent McInnes of RR2 Wingham, considering the delay in the approval of the COED funding.
