BY TD _ • .
The GDCI junior VfkInge concluded their
regular season with a 27-0 victory over
Norwell, in Huron -Perth Conference football
settee here Thursday.
The victory gives the Vikings a record of
five whL and one loss and second place in
the league standings.
The Vikings meet Stratford Central, the
third place finishers, here Thursday at 1
p.m. in sudden -death semi-final playoffs.
The winner will play the victor of the other
semi-final, first place South Huron and
fourth place Listowel, in the championship
final on Saturday, November 12.
The Vikings' only loss was a 2-1 squeaker
to South Huron mid -way through the
schedule. The Vikings have an impressive
offensive and defensive record on the
season, having scored 176 points and given
up only 17,
Here Thursday, big Dave Ahnasi scored
the first two Viking touchdowns, the first on
an eight yard sweep in the first quarter, the
other on a 42 yard pitch pass and run from
Rob Gibbons in the second quarter. The
Vikings got a third quarter touchdown from
Kevin Talbot on a six yard dive and a fourth
quarter major from Kevin Telford on a nine
yard run. Shawn Larder kicked three
successful converts for the Vikings.
The Viking offence piled up a total of 304
yards on the day with running back Rob
Gibbons personally accounting for 144 yards
of that total. The Viking defence was quick
off the ball and hard-hitting, allowing only
four Norwell first downs. Defensive tackles
_Darryl Black and Todd Jeffrey had strong
games, shutting down Norwell's running
attack. Todd Gilchrist made an impressive
return from the injury list, recovering a
fumble on the first defensive play of the
game and going on from there to turn in a
strong performance at his middle guard
position.

One tough football player to stop is Rob Gibbons as the Norwell
defence found out on Thursday. The junior Vikings, who lost only
one game all season, defeated the Redmen 27-0. (photo by Anne

Pee Wees weaken in third
Last Saturday in Strathroy the Lions' Pee
Wees had five third period goals against
them that turned a tight garne into a thump-
ing for the home team with a score of 8-1. ,
Strathroy took a 1-0 lead in the first period
but the Lions' Andre Cauchi scored on a low
shot with Shawn Talbot assisting early in
the second to tie the contest. The score
stayed this way until two minutes were left
in the period when Strathroy tallied quickly,
once shorthand, to take a 3-1 lead after two
periods. These were heartbreaking goals as
the Lions
had just finished killing ng off a two
man disadvantage by Pat Donnelly, Lonnie
Rumig, Jason Millian and Jeff Boyce.
In the third period the Lions started to
contain Strathroy's Jamie Greig as he had
three goals and an assist to personally pick
the locals. So far this year, the third period
had been the Lions' best but in this contest,
it was their worst.
The Lions will be looking to get back on
the winning track after two straight losses
when they play Ilderton here Saturday and
in Lucan on Sunday.
