Sunday morning we observed another crow with him, this is the first time we have seen him with another bird. rative Cairn unve'. ort Albert church site PORT ALBERT NEWS Torn Livirigaii no. 45128 -761145 Sunday, October 9 at 1 p.m., the Reverend Lochart Royal of Knox Presbyterian Church Goderich, officiated at the dedication and unveiling of a cairn and plaque on the site where the St. Andrew's United Church once stood. The Church was built in 1868 by Anglicans and Presbyterians, serving as a Presbyterian Church until 1925, then as a United church until closure in 1969. The cairn and plaque were placed on the site by the family of the late Henry Lednor and his wife Jean Dunbar, to commemorate, Mrs. Lednor's 100th birthday, December 11, 1983. Following the service, guest wereinvited to an afternoon tea at the summer homes of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Balkwill, and Mr. and Mrs. George Fennell. Mrs. Lednor ap- preciated the many good wishes extended to her on the occasion. All six daughters and their families were present. Body Builders On October 5, Port Albert Body Builders held their fifth meeting at the home of leader, Donna Hayden. Guests were Helen Vanden Heuvel and Wanda Keith, representing Mary Kay cosmetics. They supplied each member with a kit and taught us how to apply skin care treatment. This began by determining skin type as oily, dry, or normal. Then we followed the steps by cleansing, moisturizing, applying a' mask, and finishing with make-up application. The members enjoyed e d this activity.. Business for the meeting began with 4-H pledge, minutes and roll call which was answered by giving a money saving idea using a skin care preduct or interviewing an older person about the types of skin care products used. The club discussed "Grooming Aids and the Law" learning such terms as cosmetic, drug and hypoallergenic. The next meeting will be October 12 at Wendy Miltenberg's. For most families this was Thanksgiving weekend, but for the Cowan Family it was a time for the Christmas tree with all the decorations and presents under it. Dinner was turkey and cranberry sauce. Sam and Nancy Cowan are summer residents in Port Albert at Cedar Beach and will leave soon for their winter home m Florida. Attending the party was their family Clyde and Betty Cowan and their children Kelly Anne, Guy and Jason from Stouffville. Keith and Sandy Cowan and children Blair and Heather, from Mississauga. Also Brent and Pattie Cowan with ,their family Tracy and Benjamin of London. Sam and Nancy Cowan have recently returned from a trip in Europe. They spent 19 days in Yugoslavia, Austria, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary. They were impressed by each country. With the increased flow of water in the nine mile river at Port Albert, more fishermen have been seen fishing in that area. Jeffrey Faulhafer from Sebringville A dedication ceremony took place on the former site of St. Andrews United Church on High- way 21 near Port Albert Sunday with the unveiling of a commemorative cairn and plaque. Built in 1868, the former church served as a Presbyterian Church until 1925 and as a United Church until 1969. the cairn and plaque were placed on the site by the Lednor family in honor of the late Henry Lednor and his wife Jean, who will celebrate her 100th birthday December 11. Faulhafer has been quite successful when fishing in Port Albert. Nancy and Ken Doherty and son Evan, from Timmins, spent the Thanksgiving holiday with their parents in the village. Nancy Doherty is the former Nancy Bellinger. Johanna Graf, a summer resident at Victoria Beal?h Port Albert, celebrated her 91st birthday Friday with her family at her residence in Kitchener. Communion was observed at Christ Anglican Church Port Albert at the 2 p.m. service Sunday. Many visitors were present from Toronto, Sarnia, Dartmouth Nova Scotia:::The,Reverend Robert Crocker in his sermon spoke from the St. Lukes Gospel, chapter 17 verse 11, "Were there not ten cleansed?" Alma Black attended the Deanery meeting held at St. Johns Church Brussels on October 4. Steve Corkum is visiting with his family in the village. Steve Corkum is employed in the building of a generating station at Lingan, Nova Scotia. He expects the project to be completed in the summer of '84. Also visiting at the Corkum home is Nancy Hospital receives grant to expand physio service Alexandra Marine and General Hospital in Goderich is to receive an annual grant of $19,400 to expand its out-patient physiotherapy services, it was announced today by Health Minister Keith Norton. The grant will be added to the hospital's budget to cover additional staff salaries. The new service will begin as soon as. recruitment is completed. The Alexandra Marine and General is one of 36 hospitals across the province to receive funds today for new or expanded out-patient physiotherapy services. All the hospitals are located in areas designated underserviced by the Health Ministry and the Ontario Physiotherapy Association. "This program reflects the ministry's increasing emphasis on out-patient, com- munity-based services and reaffirms our commitment to provide quality health care in all areas of the province," said Mr. Norton. More than $800,000 will be added to the 36 hospitals' budgets to cover this year's start-up costs, salaries and operating ex- penses. It is estimated that more than 13,000 people will receive physiotherapy each year under the new and expanded services. Councillor voted nay on final ballot In a story in the October 5th edition of the Signal -Star dealing with the election of Bob Cornish to fill a vacant council seat, it was stated that John Doherty abstained from voting on the final ballot. Councillor Doherty did in fact vote on the final ballot, casting a nay vote for both Bob Allen and Cornish, the final two can- didates. Earlier, Stan Profit and John Hills had been eliminated from the ballot. On the final ballot, deputy -reeve Jim Britnell and councillor Don Wheeler voted for Allen and mayor Eileen Palmer, reeve Harry Worsell and councillors Jim Searls, 13111 Clifford and Glen Carey voted in favor of selecting Cornish. On the first ballot, Cornish got votes from Worsell, Clifford, Carey and Palmer while Wheeler and Britnell voted for Allen and Doherty and Searls for Profit. John Hills was dropped from the ballot and the voting remained the same on the second ballot. On the third ballot, Palmer voted for Allen, breaking the tie and dropping Profit from the final ballot. The new service will be available in the following areas: Cochrane, Elgin, Grey - Bruce, Haliburton, Hastings, Huron, Kent, Leeds -Grenville, Lennox -Addington, Manitoulin -Sudbury, Middlesex, Muskoka, Nipissing, Northumberland, Ottawa, Prescott -Russell, Renfrew, Timiskaming, Waterloo. Physiotherapists help patients to regain muscular strength and improve co- ordination and range of movement through instruction and the development of suitable exercise programs.
