Bert and Ernie Club visits Maitland Manor
BY SHIRLEY LITTLE
The children from The
Bert and Ernie Club visited
Maitland Manor twice this
month. They brought crayon
drawings they had made for
the residents and sang a few
songs. Before their second
visit, the children were given
the choice of going to the
beach or going to the Manor.
They chose the Manor and
should all be commended for
their thoughtfulness. Cathy
Wiebe, the Activity Director,
was on holidays for the last
week of July and the first
week of August and the
residents really missed her
- especially Clarence
Salisbury who counted the
days 'until her return.
"The Fabians'", a singing
duet, entertained the
residents August 3 with
many country and western
tunes.

What great week we had,
for all those last minute,
things, places and hap-
penings. I know there were a
lot of pleasures packed into
that big weekend especially.
'Tho, I'M not on
"holidays", I managed to
cram in a good many things
and places in those last few
days too. Like spending a
whole afternoon, after a nice
lunch with a friend, just
roaming around, ,in and out
of stores, 'round and around
the flea market. I even
picked up a wire brush after
giving up the frustration of
looking for my own!
It's amazing how many
things you cart home after
not needing anything. I'll
probably still "not need"
them, but it was fun deciding
(changing my mind) and
splurging a little bit.
I know friend Ruthie en-
joyed the day too and I ex-
pect she was just as beat as I
was when the day ended.
Usually on this holiday,
my niece and hubby -and it
used to be children -came for
the long weekend. A chance
for Ernie to be free to watch
the ball tournament here. He
hasn't missed one in many,
many years and Walt en-
joyed going with him. They
spent the three days at the
games, then Ernie had to
dash back for the work days.
This year, they couldn't
make it. The children are
now grown and getting ready
for college and high school
had taken up a lot of time -
and money, I expect -so we
really missed them.
Walt decided Saturday to
o alone to the tournament,
o I took him over and "pick
me up at five" settled THAT.
I was glad to have a day
lone but suddenly decided
o run over the flea market.

"Why don't we do this

about the last song of the
evening, after we had
touched on all the lovely old
songs -some more than once.
I wonder what the young
folk would sing now? Unless
they had parents who loved
all the oldies, I doubt if they
could get the same
satisfaction out of the
evening. Harmony, laughter

down on the drinking,

I suppose it because we
