ORE A sponsoring
Property Week
Dear Editor,
Property rights are no
joke. Losing them is even
less of a joke.
That's why the Ontario
Real Estate Association is
once again sponsoring
Private Property Week, Oc-
tober 2 -10, under the theme
"Your Home is Your Castle
... Let's Keep It That Way!"
Government- regulation
often restricts property
owners' rights to buy, sell,
lease, develop, or renovate
their own property. Major
examples of expensive over-
regulation of property can be
found in expropriation pro-
blems (such as Pickering
airport), floodplain mapp-
ing and the Niagara Escarp-
ment Act.
Private Property Week is
designed to heighten public
awareness of property
restrictions across Ontario.
Information will be made
available to the majority of
Ontario's citizens through
the facilities of the 48 local
real estate boards in
municipalities across the
province. Many boards are
holding open houses or pro-
viding informational ex-
hibits at local shopping
malls or other public access
locations.
Further information' on
Private Property Week will
follow in future weeks.
Sincerely,
Barrie Doyle,
Director of
Communications, OREA.
Avonton
barn
burns
MITCHELL -A fire which
broke out after 9 p.m. on
August 22, destroyed Bruce
Aitcheson's barn just east of
Avonton. Sebringville Fire
Chief Allen Brander
estimated the damage at
about $85.000.
The fire was first noticed
by Mr. Aitcheson's neighbor,
Darren Murray of RR 2 St.
Pauls when he was on his
way home from a ball game.
He immediately went to the
Aitcheson farmhouse and
alerted his neighbor and the
two men ran to the barn to
remove some items.
The cattle in the barn
escaped when the doors were
opened though about 50
chickens were lost in the fire.
Firemen from the
Sebringville department
found they could do nothing
to save the barn when they
arrived at the farm so they
concentrated on preventing
the fire from spreading and
from damaging the silos.
As firemen battled the
huge blaze, about 100 neigh-
bors looked on without being
able to help. Firemen
remained at the site until
about 2 a.m.
The fire destroyed some
hay and a bail elevator.
Chief Brander said that the
spontaneous combustion
may have been the cause of
the fire but said he could not
be certain.
The barn was insured but
Mr. Aitcheson said he ex-
pects the insurance won't
cover all of his losses from
the fire.

Volunteers' are
Dear Editor,
The approach of autumn
means that the busiest time
of the year is at hand for all
of us who work for UNICEF
in Canada. It is now that
many volunteers are needed
to assist us in the various
aspects of our two major fun-
draising projects. Through
the good offices of the news
media, weseek out fellow
Ontarians to help us.
We indeed grateful for
'the excellent publicity which
our organization has receiv-
ed from you. We appreciate
the support that you, your
staff and your readers have
given to UNICEF. We
realize how much this has
contributed to the success of
ourendeavours. Funds rats -
:ed through 'our mutual ef-
forts mean that thousands of
children in many parts of the
world will benefit fr '- clean
water, better nutrition and
the possibility of an educa-
tion. A little really goes a
long way.

dancer Society says thanks for contributions
Dear Editor:
On behalf of the Huron
County Unit of the Canadian
Cancer Society, I would like
to express our appreciation
and gratitude to all the peo-
ple of the Goderich area who
contributed so generously to
the 1983 Cancer Campaign
for funds. As a result, the
Goderich branch, under the
capable leadership of Argyle
Lochart, Mel Farnsworth
and Ken Scott, have achiev-
ed the impressive total of

Katimavik thanks billeters
Dear Editor,
This is just a small letter
to billeters in appreciation of
the experience that they give
the Goderich Katimavik
Group during their two
weeks billeting. Living as
part of a family in strange
surroundings can be very
difficult, but every partici-
pant has had a rewarding
stay. We hope that the
billeters can also say that
they found the billets
satisfactory.
As you probably know, we
leave for Quebec soon and.a
replacement group will ar-
rive on September 1. This
group will also billet with a
local family during their
stay in Goderich. If you feel
that you would like to have
another billet, please contact
Diana (our group leader) at
524-4303. Also please feel free
to call Diana to comment on
the participant(s) who
stayed with you.
" We would also like to thank
their kindness and hospitali-
ty over the past three mon-
ths.
Yours truly,
Neil Hann,
