BUSINESS
Business Communications A
This course provides theory and prac-
tice of some of the knowledge and skill
necessary for business writing. Empha-
sis is given to the priorities of good
writing as applied to the design and
development of business communica-
tion; including how to deliver clear
messages, memos and reports.

Marketing I A
This introductory course in marketing
includes such topics as: the marketing
concept, markets, people and money;
product planning and development,
product -line policies and strategies,
brands and packaging, the distribution
structure, promotional activities, adver-
tising, sales promotion and personal
selling, marketing research and con-
sumer behaviour.

Marketing II A
This course is designed to expand on
the basic marketing concepts covered in
Marketing I. The course is an in-depth
study of the marketing conceptincluding
market segmentation, target marketing,
product positioning strategy, promotion,
pricing and the distribution structure.

Introductory Financial Accounting A
This course is a beginning course in
Financial Accounting designed to form a
basis of the student's accounting knowl-
edge and provide training in the use of
recognized accounting principles and
methods, double entry bookkeeping,
preparation of financial statements and
departmental and branch accounting
controls.
Topics include partnership and corpora-
tion formation and financing fixed
assets, manufacturing operations, in-
ventories and financial statement analy-
sis.

Principles Of Economics A
Macro -economics: national income ac-
counts, fiscal policy, monetary policy,
unemployment, inflation.
Micro -economics: consumer behaviour,
revenue structure and output levels of
individual firms, market structures, the
use and pricing of economic resources.

Materials Management
(M.M. 1 And 2)
The purpose of these two courses is to
advance the theory and practice of
materials management. Modern materi-
als management is concerned with
development of scientific knowledge in
the acquisition, receiving, storage, dis-
tribution of raw and packaging materials
from source to consumer.
Graduates of these courses after com-
pleting additional studies and acquiring
the necessary work experience, may
present themselves for examinations for
the professional designations: P.C.M.H.
(Professional Certified in Materials Han-
dling,) and/or P.C.M.M. (Professional
Certified in Materials Management).
The following courses are offered ;omtly
by the International Materials Manage-
ment Society (IMMS) and Conestoga
College. You do not have to be
employed in the field or a member in the
society to take these courses.
Materials Handling (M.M. 1)
This twenty week course deals primarily
with the hardware and equipment in
Materials Handling. Topics covered
include: Introduction to Materials Man-
agement; Purchasing; Traffic and Trans-
portation; Warehousing, Receiving and
Shipping; Materials Handling Equip-
ment; the Fork Lift Truck; Conveyor;
Cranes and Hoists; Utilization and the
Pallet; Containerization. Note: fee in-
cludes all course materials.
Who Should Attend
This course will be of interest to
Supervisors and Lead Hands and others
in warehousing, traffic, inventory con-
trol, and purchasing. It should also be of
interest to Vendors and Salespersons,
and to Materials Managers interested in
complete and detailed knowledge of
materials handling equipment.

Materials Management (M.M. 2)
This twenty week course focuses on
materials management systems. Aimed
at decision -makers and potential deci-
sion -makers, it deals with methods of
analysis, quantification and control.
Topics covered include: Introduction to
Inventory Control; Economic Appraisal
and Evaluation of Alternatives; Statis-
tics; Analytical Techniques; Manage-
ment Planning; Financial Planning &
Budgeting; Preventative Maintenance;
Industrial Safety; Communications;
Computers and Materials Management.
Prerequisite: M.M. 1 or a minimum of
three years varied experience in the
field. Fee does not include text pre-
viously purchased in M.M. 1.

Managers or Senior Supervisors in
'distribution, traffic warehousing, or in-
ventory control. It should also be of
interest to Vice -Presidents of Opera-
tions, Directors of Distribution & Material

Data Processing Concepts A
If you know little about computers "end
simply want to become computer liter-
ate" or if you want to gain the
background knowledge you will need to
be successful in a computer program-
ming course, then this is the course for
you. You will study the history, compo-
nents, function and application of com-
puters in today's business. Other topics
include software, programming lan-
guages and operating environments.
You will have an opportunity to use a
computer terminal to develop simple
programs related to the concepts you
have studied. Upon completion, in
addition to having an understanding of
computers, the terminology related to
them and how they work, you will
understand more fully the activities,
machinery and personnel found in a
data processing department. You will
be well prepared to pursue program-
ming courses, if desired.

Data Processing II A
Prerequisite: Data Processing Concepts
or Equivalent.
This course will interest you if you
would like more information about Data
Processing and/or if you are thinking
of enrolling in a programming course
but aren't sure which programming
language best suits your requirements.
You will have an opportunity to take a
more in-depth look at activities within a
data processing department. Micro,
mini and mainframe computers, data
communications and current computer
applications are topics which you will
examine. You will be exposed to a
computer text editor and introduced to
programming languages such as RPG
and COBOL. You will be using the
computer terminal to become familiar
with these languages.

Computer Programming With
BASIC Language I A
Prerequisite: Data Processing Concepts
or Equivalent.
You will learn to program a computer
using the Basic Programming Lan-
guage. You will be able to create, alter,
and run a program of medium complex-
ity using many of the more simple
commands. Hands-on experience is
gained through the use of computer
terminals or microcomputers. A min-
imum of twelve hours is provided
during class hours and students may
have access to machines at specified
times outside of class. A more ad-
vanced course is available in Computer
Programming With BASIC Language II.
