in memory of Arthur Laverty.
February 24. 1897 - August 14,
1980.
This man - a sage philosopher -
displayrrd his wisdom well:
He'd sit for hours, pipe in hand,
and to his listeners tell
Of social deeds and Herculean
tourneys he had fought.
Of course, some witty toles of
mirth and poetry were taught.
His eyes had seen so much of
life yet never lost their twinkle.
His face was tanned and smooth
- he wouldn't tolerate a
wrinkle!
His spirit was vivacious and his
heart so optimistic.
With his feet on "terra firma" -
he hod no love for mystics.
His life - four score and three -
was good and full, though often
tough.
But even in his eighties he could
say, "It's not enough!'"
He was to all who loved him a
constant inspiration_
Foreverhe will be to us a source
of admiration_

Sylvia
will sing
The top name in female
coin itt'y music is coming to
the Western Fair on Monday,
September 12.
Sylvia is fresh off two her
stn
hits with "No +r
", el
cross.over smash,
and her most recent single,
"Snapshot". The album of
the same name is currently
sitting at number 10 on the
country Sylvia has paid her dues:
she moved to Nashville in
1976 and obtained a "day
job" as a secretary. This
allowed her to finance her
career working small clubs
and honky tanks. But Sylvia
had a much bigger plan ... "I
moved to Nashville to be a
singer. Nobody's ever just
discovered. I knew the only
way was a slow climb and it
would take hard work and a
lot of luck".
During the 1982 fair
season, Sylvia worked an
astounding 70 concerts in 90
days, firmly establishing her
popularity with pop, country
and contemporary music
fans.
Her polished production is
sure to please Western Fair
grandstanders at 7 and 9
p.m. on Monday, September
12. When the question "Who
is hotter in country music
than Sylvia?" is asked, the
answer for sure is
"Nobody"!
