In baseball news from Holmesville the Boys Tykes II lost to Goderich II and the Tykes I tied with Goderich I. The Mixed Tykes defeated Stanley II while the Squirt Girls had a rest. The Bantam Girls game was cancelled and the Bantam Boys won an exhibition game over Coiborne. Porters Hill Men's slo- pitch team took the week off. Holmesville Store slo-pitch lost to Goderich Renegades by one run. The Morning Worship Ser- vice at Holmesville United Church was well attended for the first service after a month of no church. Verna Lobb at the organ and Del Schoendorff on the guitar played special music for the service. Rev. Jim Betchel was in charge. Over 125 attend service Over 125 people availed themselves of the op- portunity to take a few hours on Sunday afternoon, August 7 to attend the Memorial Service at Colborne Cemetery. It was a time to pause and think back over the many years and to recall the joy known with former friends who have gone before. It was a hot day but cool under the shade of the many trees in the cemetery. Many floral tributes could be seen here and there throughout the cemetery. Reeve J. Russel Ker- nighan welcomed all, especially those who came from a distance. He then introduced the McMillan Family who have supplied music for this occasion for many years (both their own selections plus ac- companiment for hymns) and the guest speaker, Reverend Gilbert W. Kidd of the First Baptist Church in Goderich. Coaches of the Colborne pee wee team are Larry Boyd and Doug McDonald. Chain letters illegal A form of chain letter has again arrived on the scene. This particular one appears to have originated somewhere in the United States, and claims to be legal. It is not legal in Canada! Any form of chain letter that requires you to send in something of value, be it money, liquor or whatever, is illegal and falls under Sec- tion 189 of the Criminal Code, warns the Ontario Provin- cial Police. As the originators are usually unknown, the chances of prosecution are very slim. Chain letters should be dealt with in only one way — the waste basket route. Mrs. Bonnie Armour of Waterloo (daughter) was in charge of the special card which the guests signed and welcomed everyone along with her brothers, Donald of Kitchener, Lyman of Port Alberni, B.C., Paul of Kit- chener and Harold of Belgrave. Afternoon smorgasbord and tea was set up by members" of Unit 2 of'Knox UCW. The afternoon was spent renewing acquaintances with over 135 relatives and friends who brought congratulations on this occasion. Guests were present from Morth Bay, Peterborough, Kitchener, Wingham, Stratford, Clarksburg, Mississauga, Brampton, Goderich, Blyth, Toronto, Meaford, Amherstburg, Port Alberni, B.C. . and the surrounding district. The bride and groom of 45 years received many gifts from relatives and friends along with many cards to mark the occasion. Allan McDougall and family last week. Mrs. Major Youngblut is a patient in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, Goderich. She is wished a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Carmen Tebutt of Clinton, Miss Kate M. Govier of Toronto and Mrs. Katherine Jackson of Auburn were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Ball of R.R. 1, Auburn one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Rodger visited last week with Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Pink at St. Catharines. Several children from this community have been at- tending Camp Menestung. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Archambault and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Sellers of Bluevale returned home last week after a trip to British Columbia. Mr. and Mrs. George Collins and Jonathon returned home Saturday evening, after a trip to Niagara Falls and other points along Iake Erie. Sunday guests with Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Archambault and Marilyn were Mr. and Mrs. Don Parker, Sarah and Amy of Goderich, Mr. and Mrs. Rick Archambault and Becky of R.H. 1, Auburn, and Mrs. Edna Duncalfe of Toronto. Miss Sarah Parker remained for a week's holiday. Picnic The Walkerburn Club picnic was held at the home of Mrs. Pat flunking recently and swimming was enjoyed from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Games, relays and contests were prepared by Mrs. Garth McClinchey and Mrs. Tom Cunningham. Mrs. Terry Rutledge won the jelly bean guessing contest. The trivia contest was won by Keith Lapp. The relay teams and the scavenger hunt winners received candies. Name bingo was played with most everyone winning a prize. The smaller children had a candy scramble and were given balloons. A picnic lunch was enjoyed by all and special thanks was given to Pat for the use of her pool and grounds for this annual event. Plans were made for the next meeting to be held on August 29 at the home of Mrs. Stewart Ball. This will be a walk through the woods to see the scenic surroun- dings on the banks of the Blyth creek in the Maitland Block of Hullett Township. Social News Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cartwright returned last week from a camping trip at Port Carling in Northern Ontario. The lucky winner at the Auburn and District Lions Club a week ago was John Thompson. Last week's winner was Jim Glousher. Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Young of Stratford visited on Sunday with Mrs. Tom Johnston and Miss Laura Phillips. Miss Isabel Northrop of Toronto visited last week with her friend, Mrs. Wilma Brawley. Visitors this past week with Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Lapp were Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Wood of Montreal and David Wood of Toronto, Mrs. R. Templar of Rochester and Mr. and Mrs. R. Egypt of Windsor. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Youngblut, Patricia, Edward and Donald of South Porcupine and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Belliffieve, Trent and Renee of Waterloo were guests on the holiday weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Major Youngblut. The community is pleased to report that Robert Armstrong returned home last weekend after being a patient in St. Joseph's hospital for a couple of weeks. Angie McDougall of Sudbury has been holidaying with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth McDougall and her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Gross, Anita, Bryan and April and returned home to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thousands line route KURTT,VIIJ,E - Under sunny skies, with thousands lining the route, the Wallace Township 125th anniversary parade went off without a hitch on July 30. The parade included over 200 entrants and lasted about an hour and 10 minutes. Following the parade the Bavarian garden at the Wallace Community Centre did a brisk business in the sweltering heat. There were a variety of games for the t n jnyment of the children.
