the neighbour's dog turned
up his nose at these. i For-
tunately for all of the hungry
people at the barbecue, the
chefs were finally able to
master the. skill of cooking
hotdogs • and everyone had
quite a feast. Polly Som-
mers, a neighbour of Rita's,
came over with her auto
harp and , played for the
residents. They enjoyed the
music and were delighted
with Polly's two young sons,
Jeremiah and Noah, and
Tom and Rita's grand-
children, Tara and Tricia.
The children from the Bert
and Ernie Club paid the
residents a visit on July 22
and entertained everyone
with a variety of songs. The
residents. especially love it
when children come to the
Manor and the Bert and Er-
nie Club will be back on
August 5.
Those celebrating bir-

both the police station and the fire hall. Hopefully one
of the fire Officers' wives is borne to take the in-
fortnatlon. She then activates the paging system
which is;eonnected through a radio system. After
heaiing `their pagers, the firemen go.to the fireball
and take the information from the wife over the
Phone.
This time the system failed and Scruton says the
department is not sure but it Its thought a switch that
should have been on, may hale been turned off.
Although this is the first time the paging*TWAT)has hot worked, Scruton explains, "Th is an
example of why the calls might be better handled b
the dispatcher at the police station. if the call had
come into the police station, this may not have
happened. We were just lucky there weren't any lives
involved."
Mrs. Vanden Heuvel agrees. "We don't fel good
about how the fire system works. It took the men at
least 40 minutes to get here and errors like that
shouldn't be made since there could have been a life
lost," shesays.

"This was a once in a life -time experience," said
Carol Hodne, midwest coordinator for the U.S.
Farmers Association and the North American Farm
Alliance. "We have started a small flame, and now
we must nourish it till it grows into an international
movement. The real test, however, will be in the
future. As our farm economies continue to worsen,
more attempts will be made to confuse farmers by
trying to place the blame on other countries. This
summit will provide a forum for opposing these ef-
forts to pit farmers against each other in the coming
months."
"In Europe," said Bruno Buffaria from the Na-
tional Federation of Farmers Unions in France, "the
newspapers and televisions only give us part of the
picture of the problems of North American
agriculture. What we found out in talking with
American farmers was that their conditions were
very similar to ours. We both have big problems, and
we must work together to solve them."
