The Williams' cottage is on the north side of the Nine Mile River surrounded by beautiful cedar and maple trees. The lawn with its many tables and white tableclothsdecorated with white daisies, red and yellow roses and chrysanthemums made for a beautiful setting. George Williams was born in England in 1910 and im- migrated to Canada in 1920. On arrival in Canada he first settled in the Bracebridge area, later moving to the Sarnia area. Ethel Moorehouse was born in England in 1910 and immigrated to Canada in 1911, residing in the Sarnia area. In 1933 George Williams and Ethel Moorehouse were married in the Baptist Church in Forest. They have six children: William at home in Sarnia; Cliff of Sar- nia, wife Shirley and children, Gregory and Mike; Dick of Point Edward, wife Joan and children Rick and Leslie; Mrs. Marlene Abrams of Sarnia and children Susan and Jane; and Mrs. Ken (Carolyn) Alcock of Goderich and children Pamela and Angela. The happy couple received many beautiful gifts from their family and friends. They reminisced of the dif- ficult times and the happy times they experienced together raising a family of six. In the Sarnia area, George worked for Massey Harris for a period of time. He then took employment with Polysar where he work- ed for 35 years, retiring in 1972. Since 1972, the Williams have made their home in Port Albert. They enjoy the quiet in the village, the easy access to the Nine Mile River and the beautiful sunsets on Lake Huron. George is also an ardent golfer. The Williams are held in high esteem and 175 guests signed 'the guest book at their celebration, coming from such places as Wind- sor, Nova Scotia, Sarnia, IT'S WORTH THE DRiVE! Social News Dick Wreford and Virginia Wreford of Detroit are visiting with Martha Wreford, a summer resident in Port Albert. Tom Kavanagh and Virginia Kavanagh of Wind- sor are visiting with Mrs. Val Kavanagh of Port Albert. Tom Kavanagh has been an employee of Chrysler for 33 years and he also delivered mail on a rural route for 21 years. , Bill and Margaret Balkwell of Downsview are spending several days at their summer cottage (Lakeview Heights) in Port Albert. Also spending the weekend at the Balkwell cot- tage was their daughter Karen and husband Barry Hutchinson from Brampton. Norval and,Ruth Anderson and Mrs. Agnes Foster, mother of Ruth Anderson, who have been vacationing at their summer home in Port Albert (River's Bend), have returned to their home in Toronto for a few days. On June 10 Laurie Doherty graduated with her Bachelor of Education Degree from the University. of Western Ontario's Faculty of Educa- tion. Laurie's parents, Frank and Isobel Doherty from Port Albert, were in at- tendance ttendance for the convocation service at Alumni Hall. Laurie is employed at the Children's Museum for the summer in London. Church News Evening prayer service at Christ Anglican Church, Port Albert, was conducted by the Reverend Robert Crocker Sunday. Morning services will be held at 9:30 a.m., commenc- ing June 26, for the duration of the { summer. June 26 will be a communion service. The garage sale will be held July 2. The cemetery service will be held July 10 at 3 p.m. Ball News Sunday at Lucknow, the Port Albert Pirates were runners-up in the 'A' division of the slow pitch tourna- ment. In the first game, the Pirates trimmed the Port Elgin Kinsmen 16-5., In the second game, the Pirates defeated Kingsbridge 10-8. In the third game the Pirates lost to their neighbors, the Port Albert Bull Dogs 16-10. As runners-up in the 'A' Divi- sion, the Pirates received $200. Fish and Birds Ministry of Natural Resources officials at Wingham report they have had four conservation of- ficers patrolling Lake Huron this week, checking on the fishing. The area patrolled by the Wingham officers is from Grand Bend to Point Clark. Roy Bellinger; senior officer in charge of the patrol, states . it is quite possible in some instances that charges will be laid. Elwin Petrie, the vi lage storekeeper, reports that the perch are running in the Nine Mile River and says there have been some good catches. Roy Bellinger, Con- servation Officer, reports perch fishing is good at Grand Bend, Bayfield, Goderich and Point Clark. Norval Anderson, summer resident of the village, while doing a recent survey for the Field Naturalists Bird Cen- sus, patrolling east of Amberley to Lothian, says the redheaded woodpecker is the most unusual bird he has found.
