Dr. Irvine said that a
member of his Rotary Club,
Thornbury -Clarksburg, went
to Haiti as a volunteer and
interested the club in
sponsoring a variety of
projects to alleviate the
distress of many Haitiar°s.
Subsequently, many other
Rotary Clubs in. District 633
have become interested and
provided support for many
projects.
A rusted camp stove that
provided for the needs of 3000
students was replaced and
thousands of children were
immunized. Twenty
thousand dollars provided
wells for schools. Clinics
were built and staffed by

Goderich native dies in Michigan
MISS LENA MURRAY
Miss Lena Murray of Troy,
Michigan died in Deaconess
Hospital, Detroit on Thur-
sday, June 9 at the age of 83.
She was born in Goderich
on December 23, 1899 to John
and Catherine Murray.
She lived in Goderich until
moving to Detroit in 1925
where she had lived ever
since.
She was a production
worker with an automotive
supply company and a
member of the Presbyterian
Church.
She is survived by . two
sisters, Mrs. Grace Nor-
thover of Toronto and Mrs.
Winnifred Keyes of
Hamilton; and one brother,
Raymond Murray of
Toronto.
A graveside committal
service was held at the
Maitland Cemetery in
Goderich on Wednesday,
June 15 at 2 p.m. The
Reverend G.L. Royal of-
ficiated. Stiles Funeral
Home of Goderich was in
charge of the arrangements.

Harry M. Downie of
Goderich died in Maitland
Manor Nursing Home on
Tuesday, June 14 at the age
of 88.
He was born in Dundee,
Scotland on May 8, 1895 to
Joseph and Barbara
( Mclnroy) Downie.
He was retired as a
supervisor with Burroughs
Corporation.
He served in the U.S.
Army from 1914-1918.
He was a member of
Ashlar Lodge No. 91 A.F. and
A.M., Detroit. He was also a
member of Knox
Presbyterian Church,
Goderich.
He married Lillian
MacLean in Detroit on June
19, 1923. She predeceased
him on June 25, 1980.
He is survived by one
daughter, Mrs. Robert
( Eileen) Rediske of
Bloomfield Hills, Michigan;
and three. grandchildren,
Mrs. George ( Cheryl) Cogar
of Toman, Wisconsin, Mrs.'
Kurt (Terry) Komlos of
Ypsilanti, Michigan and
Bruce Rediske of Bloomfield
Hills, Michigan.
A funeral service was held
at McCallum Funeral Horne

He is survived by his wife,

A private family funeral
service was held in Toronto
on Tuesday, June 21.
A Masonic service
followed by interment was
held in Colborne Township
Cemetery.

nephews of the late Mr.

Mrs. Reta Scrimgeour of
Goderich died in Alexandra
Marine and General Hospital
on Friday, June 17 at the age
of 82.
She was born in Goderich
on April 19, 1901 to Walker
and Bertha (Brown)
Murray.
She was a member of St.
George's Anglican Church in
Goderich.
She was predeceased by
her first husband, George
Garrick and her second
husband, Norval ( Pat)
Scrimgeour; one brother,
Benson Murray; and two
sisters, Mrs. Graham
( Pamela Koviak)' Stevenson
and Mrs. Ferris (Vesta)
Catlin.
She is survived by two
sons, James B. Garrick of
Windsor and Robert Garrick
of Goderich; a twin sister,
Mrs. William ( Ruth) Taman
of Huronview and sisters,
Mrs. Fred (Edna) McCabe
'of Goderich, Mrs. Joseph
( Norma) Lukomski of
Jerome, Michigan arid Mrs.
John ( Rose Bowler) Austin
of Kingsbridge; two
brothers, Arthur Murray of
Chilliwack, B.C. and
Ellwood ' Murray of
Goderich; one grand-
daughter, Mrs. Pat
(Catherine) Gerard of
London; and three great-
grandchildren, Pamela,

A funeral service was held
at McCallum Funeral Home
in Goderich on Monday, June
20 at 2 p.m. The Reverend
Robert J. Crocker of St.
George's Church officiated.
Interment was in the
Maitland Cemetery,
Goderich.

Keith Cutt, Joe O'Brien,

CHARLES DENOMME
A well known Clinton
resident, Lawrence Charles
Denomme died at his 65
Princess St. W. home in
Clinton on June 17. He was 82
years old.
A Clinton resident since
1936, many knew Mr.
Denomme ., "Sam," a
custodian at tileiOlinton high
school.'"- "
He was born on August 25,
1900 to the late Phillip
Denomme and the former
Annie Durand of Hay
Township.
On October 26, 1920 he
married the former Verda
Marie Rau at St. Peter's
Roman Cathblic Church in
St. Joseph's.
The couple and their
family moved to Clinton in
1936. Mr. Denomme was a
member of St. Joseph's
Roman Catholic Church in
town.
Along with his wife, Mr.
Denomme is survived by
three daughters, Mrs. Glenn
(Geraldine) Mattoon of
Nipawin, Saskatchewan;
Mrs. Colin (Cecelia) McNeil
of Goderich and Mrs. Eric
(Bernice) Moore of RR 4,
Goderich. Four sons also
survive, Wilfred and Donald,
both of Goderich, John Paul
of Hamilton and Clarence of
Clinton. Mr. Denomme was
predeceased by one son
Francis.
He is also survived by
three sisters and six
brothers_ They are: Mrs.
Lloyd (Leona) Bedard off
Seaforth; Mrs. John
(Adeline) Denomy of St.
Joseph; Mrs. Garfield
(Florence) Denomme of St.
Joseph; Raymond, John and
Anthony, all of St. Joseph;
Leo of Detroit, Michigan;
Athenese of Washington,
Michigan and Telus of
Paincourt.
As well 34 grandchildren
and 24 great grandchildren,
also survive.
Funeral services were
held on, June 20 at the St.
'Joseph's Church in Clinton.
Father John Pluta officiated
and interment followed at
the Clinton cemetery.

Kevin Huyck
will tour Europe
with concert band
Kevin Huyck, son of John
and Alice Huyck . of
Goderich, is leaving for
Europe next week with the
Ontario Youth Concert Band.
The band leaves for
England on Tuesday, June 28
for a three-week tour of
Europe that will take it to six
countries. Members will be
playing concerts and
sightseeing in England, West
Germany, Austria,
Liechtenstein, Switzerland,
and Belgium.
Kevin, 20, auditioned for
the band last fall. He was
accepted as first tenor
saxophone in both the con-
cert and stage bands. ,

There are 50 members in
the band ranging in age from
18 to 21. Criteria used in their
selection are musical ex-
cellence,
xcellence, achievement and
personal character. The
musicians come from all
over Ontario, and are
selected via local or
provincial auditions.

Kevin Huyck
European tour, and has gone
to Europe every other year
since. In Ontario, it has
played at the Stratford
Festival, the Shaw Festival,
Ontario Place and the
National Arts Centre.
The band started
rehearsals at McMaster
University on June 18, and
will be playing its first
concert at Ontario Place on
Saturday, June 25. The day
before its departure for
England,. CHCH-TV will tape
the band at Hamilton Place.
At the band's first
rehearsal on the Victoria
Day weekend, Kevin was
nominated to 'be the master
of ceremonies during the
tour. He will also have the
opportunity to do some vocal
solos.
Kevin finished first year in
a commerce program at
Carleton University. Ind' has
applied to go into music at
the university level next
year.
