Local public school teachers have been re- engaged for next year at the same salaries as before. The Goderich Salt Com- pany has asked for a 10 -year extension of an arrangement whereby it received special tax concessions and enjoyed free power up to 12 hor- sepower. President Wurtele stated that the re -building of the open -pan building, ' t by 320 feet, at a coat of $20,000 is contingent on the agreement_ being extended. The com- pany employs 84 workers. 25 YEARS AGO Miss Rosalie Bedard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Bedard, was chosen Queen at the Teen Queen Fantasy held at the Goderich Pavilion last Friday night. More than 100 members of Teen Town attended. When two stores in Goderich on Saturday night offered and sold milk at three, quarts for 55 cents, it marked the lowest rate at which milk has been sold here during the milk price war that has been waged for the past two or three weeks. This milk was in a three quant jug on which a deposit had to be paid and which was refunded on return of the jug. The regular price of milk delivered around town by local dairies is 23 cents per quart. Town council is still dogged by a problem of how to catch a dogcatcher to catch stray dogs. There is not a single taker for the job, even though a commission of $2 peraptured mutt has been advertised. 5 YEARS AGO Jim Banks resigned from his pgsition as administrator of `Alexandra Marine and General Hospital Friday, a position he held for three years. Board chairman Jo Berry announced Friday that Banks tendered his resignation to the board, citing personal reasons for the decision. It was effective immediately. Close to 500 people sat through an emotion charged public meeting in Clinton Tuesday night to hear arguments for and against the use of three English literature novels in Huron „County high schools. 1 Town councillors met in open committee Monday evening and - effectively cooled the airport com- mittee's recommendation to attempt to carry out the Transport Canada con- ceptual project of a 5,000 foot by 100 foot asphalt runway built in stages.
