Roger John Stephens of Goderich, son of Mr. and Mrs.
William H. Stephens of London and Sharon Ann Gaudette,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester J. Gaudette of Goderich,
were married in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church,
Goderich by the Reverend Father A.F, Loebach on May
21. Maid ,..of _honor was Sandra Gaudette of Goderich.
Bridesmaids were Brenda Bolton and Michele Hodges of
Goderich and Alice Nivins of Auburn. Flower girl was
Chantelle Gaudette of Goderich. Groomsman was Tom
Schmidt of Goderich. Guests were ushered into the church
by Glenn Green, Richard Stephens and Dennis Birch, all
of Goderich. Ringbearer was Michael Blok of Londesboro.
Following the wedding ceremony, a reception was held at
the Royal Canadian Legion in Goderich. After a wedding
trip to Niagara Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Stephens took

`rI always like to be 'up
front' with people." So the
man said. But he remained
for me, one of the most
mysterious persons I have
known.
What he meant, I'm sure,
was that he believed he
always dealt with people
openly, and honestly. He
said what he felt. What hap-
pened was the opposite. The
talking became a smoke
screen for,the real personali-
ty that one could not really
know.
Recently, while driving
cross country', I caught sight
of one of those visions that
made one turn the head to be
sure one's eyes were not

tractive
ttractive entrance way to a
home; complete with steps
and screened porch. The
strangeness of it all was that
it ,was in an open field; and
there was no house behind it.
That's right. It was all por-
ch, without a house. And I
could not help but remember
some sage advice from my
late father, about being sure
that the house of one's own
self be a true reflection of the
`porch' ... up front.
Now this seems a long way
away from what Jesus said.
But the truth is the same.
Jesus, in a very ungentle
way, condemned those who
are like whitewashed tombs,
which outwardly appear
beautiful, but within are full

time we do pretty well.
But,. it's much more than
the old debate over faith and
works. It says something
deeper for us in terms of
meaning for life. Usually we
are able to see it in others,
when it is genuinely attrac-
tive and believable. It is the
unselfish deed, the comfor-
ting word, the caring life,
that springs from resources
of a higher kind.
Such resources are
available to all, who by faith,
take seriously the mandate
of the Gospel, to seek first
the Kingdom of God. Such
resources are promised to
the faithful, who begin with
honest worship and
discipleship.
