wanted
for play
WANTED. one big, gentle,
quiet, patient and:
housebroken dog for a part
in William Gibson's The
Miracle Worker to be
presented at Huron Country
Playhouse July 21 - 30. No
particular breed required
but it is imperative that the
dog selected is very good
with children.
Though Huron Country
Playhouse is often home to a
variety of animals including
barn swallows, raccoons and
an assortment of barn cats,
auditioning a dog for an im-
portant part on stage is a
real first.
In The Miracle Worker,
the dog belongs to the
Fellers and is dramatically
important in the teaching
methods used by Annie
Sullivan to help the blind
and deaf Helen Keller
realize that every object has
a name and that knowing the
names provides the first
great key towards open com-
munication with the world.
Auditions for dogs will be
held at the Playhouse on
Sunday, June 12 from 11 a.m.
to 2 p.m. No appointments
are necessary.

. Opposition to instigate an in-
vestigation into the Pro-
vince's $28.3 million refur-
bishing of Minaki Lodge.
They maintained that
nothing new would be learn-
ed by'such an investigation.
In the Public Accounts
Committee they strongly
defended the $45 million total
expense ( including the $16.7
million spent to improve
roads and "the airport) say-
ing it will help tourism and
create jobs in the North.
Liberal James Bradley (St.
Catharines) said the opposi-
tion is not anti -North or anti=
tourism. However, he said
the committee should in-
vestigate to see if the pro-
vince's money could have
been better spent elsewhere.
, ' Diploma-niills
According to a spokesman
for the Federal Bureau of In-
vestigation in the United
States,,0 three mail-order , . ,,.. .
universit es in Ontario have.
issued diplomas and medical
degrees for. a fee without re-
quir-ing-their graduates -to -da.
any school work or even at-
tend classes.
Legislation is being in-
troduced by the Minister of
Colleges and ..Universities,
Dj. Bette Steph4son, which
will spell.out cleeaarly who can
award university degrees in
this province. The Minister
told the Legislature that On -
tai io's degrees are recogniz-
ed worldwide, but that fly-
by-night operations which
work out of post office boxes
have recently sullied the pro-
vince's reputation. Until the
legislation becomes law, this
province will remain one of
the few which doesn't re-
quire regulation of degree-
1,granting organizations.
Bluewater Centre for
Developmentally Handicap-
ped
The parents of
developmentally handicap-
ped children and the staff of
Bluewater Centre were
notified by 1 tter from the
Ministry of ommunity and
Social Serv' es that the plan-
ned clos a of the Centre will
occur on ovember 18,1983.
Obviously the numerous
concerns expressed by
parents, the many petitions
presented in the legislature
and .the Opposition
Members' comments in the
Legislature to both the
Minister of Community and
Social . Services and the
"Premier fell on deaf ears.
The feeling still exists that
it is a mistake to close the
Bluewater Centre all things
considered but perhaps our
efforts were not all in vain as
we got the assurance from
the Minister that the level of
care in the new placements
will be equivalent or better
than that currently being
provided. The Minister has
also promised that no resi-
dent will be moved to the
community without a pro-
perly supervised residential
setting and a day program
being in place. We have been
assured that the Bluewater
Centre will not be formally
closed until each resident is
appropriately placed, nor
willany resident be
transferred to another facili-
ty to await a community
alternative being developed.
I consider it my .irespon-
sibility as the Member for
Huron -Middlesex to see that
the Minister meets these
commitments if indeed the
closing of the Bluewater is a
"fait accompli".
