The GDCI Viking track team made an impressive showing in the Huron -Perth meet here
last week as several individual athletes won their respective divisions while the team

to the strong performance by the female contingent of the track team. In the above photos,

At. the Huron -Perth Track and Field
Championship held for the first time ever
in Goderich, the C .D.C.I. Viking team
came up with an outstanding effort.
The Goderich team was small. in num-
bers (only 58') but high in quality as they
finished as runners-up in the overall team
championship (by 11 points), the overall
girls' championship (by one point) and the
overall boys' championship (by 10 points).
The Midget Boys' team and the Junior
Girls' team both won the Duron -Perth
Championship in their age group. These
were the first Track and Field pennants
ever for G.D.C.I. in Huron -Perth Com-
petition.
Since Track and Field is basically an
individual competition, the most
prestigious awards are the Individual Age
Class Championships. Two of the Viking
sprinters won this honour.
Kim Fritzley is the Huron -Perth Junior
Girls' Champion. She won the 200 metre
sprint on Tuesday in a record time of 26.6
seconds, smashing the record set in 1979 by
Janice Davidson by four -tenths of a
second. She won the 100 meter sprint the
next day in near record time of 13.1 (13.0,
record). Then she won the 400 metre sprint
in a fine time of 1:02.9.
Joanne Campbell is the Huron -Perth
Midget Girls' Champion. She also won the
200 metre sprint in record time. Her time
of 27.4 seconds broke the record set by
teammate Kim Fritzley last year. She also
won the 100 metre sprint in a time of 13.2
seconds and the 400 meter sprint in an
excellent time of 1:02.9.
