In response last fall to a
challenge from IVA Hear.
Ing Chairman inion. Gary
Martins• of the Roberts
School for the hard of hear-
ing, Lion Grant Chisholm of
Lucknow, Past District
Governor, worked with A9
Hearing Chairman Ted
Heunpel of Mitchell and 415
Chairinani, Jack Merrier of
Bayfield on the purchase of a
portable acoustic impedence
meter for the Huron County
Health Unit.
This is a complex machine
of. $5,000 plus and will detect
hearing and ear problems
that formerly would take
surgery to uncover. It will
replace an aged machine
already in use.
What makes this project
unique is that Lions of two
districts co-operated in a
joint project. The A9 clubs in
Huron Country are mostly
region 3. They include
Auburn, Blyth, Brussels,
Clinton, Dublin, Godei leb,
Londesboro, Lucknow,
Seaforth and Winglian.
Clubs in A15 are Crediton,
Bayfield, Exeter, Vanastra
and Zurich. Also the Lioness
Clubs in Bayfield, Exeter
and Vanastra made very
generous contributions by
matching their sponsoring
Lions dollar for dollar.
The money has been rais-
ed and the machine will be
presented at the A9 Conven-
tion in Kincardine. The
technician who operated the
machine will be on hand and
will demonstrate it to the
Lions and ladies of A9 by giv-
ing a hearing test to anyone
interested.
With the money left over
after the purchase of this
machine, a $340 TeleCaption
machine was purchased for
the hearing impaired at
Huronview. This allows
these residents to appreciate
television much more.

Wawanosh turns down increase
West . Wawanosh Council
recently turned down a
motion to grant a five per
cent increase to all township
employees.
The five per cent increase
of $750 is mandatory since all
West Wawanosh township
employees earn under
$20.000.
According to Clerk Joan
Armstrong, the battle of the
increase has been "going on
for the last five months."
At the May 3 meeting,
Councillor Hickey proposed
the motion to accept the
increase but no other council
members would second it.
Clerk Armstrong informed
