The Goderich Signal-Star, 1983-05-18, Page 5`With salt you mush have pepper' Dear Editor, Ia the Soviet Union subjj to peaceful negotiation? The Salt I' and Salt II treaties: Salt being (Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty). ended in a stalemate, • The Soviets continued to build. up arms during . the term of these treaties while the United States arms were at a halt. With salt you .must have .pepper, as they usually go together. In my opinion, the definition of these treaties were - the Phopiest Ever Peace Proposal Ever Recorded, or PEPPER. The only reasons that the Soviet Union will negotiate is 1. To prepare for war. 2. If there is a possibility of taking over a country by ect craft arid_ _ eceir with Com. mupistic ideology, 3. If they are confronted with force equal to their own, the latter being the beat and only deterrent that they respect. 'The Soviets do not want war. If they can occupy a country by Craft and deceit, what is the point of ll war? (' Canada is in between two fires - either support United States, NORAD and NATO, or support the Soviets. They are going to have to choose. There is no sitting on the fence; it's either one or the other. If they sit on the fence, they will not be accepted by either one side or the other. These students from Victoria Public School competed successfully in the duet singing classes at the regional Rotary Music Festival. Pictured left to right are Colleen Hacon and Alysha Hacon ( grade 5), who won the girls' duet competition for grades '4 to 8; and Paul Shaddick and Tim Main (grade 6), who won the boys' duet competition. Victoria's school choir placed third in the festival held in Walkerton. (photo by Darrell Kloeze) Only family fireworks permitted Dear Editor, As it is getting close to the May 24th weekend, I wish to bring tc the attention of everyone the law respecting fireworks. A Town of Goderich By - Law prohibits the sale or of- fer for sale of any firecrackers. A "firecracker" means any pyrotechnic device that explodes instantaneously when ignited and does not make any subsequent display or visible effect after the explosion. It includes devices commonly known as "Chinese Firecrackers" but does NOT include the small caps used in toy guns NEW®RN NEWS • There Is a delegation from Russia conaulg to Canada, of six members who, are of ficiala of the Politburo. In English it means members of the Politimi Bureau,• and in tb. u$SA... they wotdld be considered top men. • It will be very .interesting to note whether they will be greeted by the throwing of eggs, or if they will receive the red -carpet treatment. By noting what kind of treat- tnent they receive, will give a "general indication to the public how much of CoM- munistic ideology the elec- torate has swallowed. More than likely they will stage a very impressive peace parade. The public will more than likely swallow this propaganda hook, line and sinker. Sincerely, N.J. FARM INSURANCE SERVICES Fireworks off on YOUR own property unless you have permission from the other owner. You cannot set off any fireworks on public proper- ty. I point out that although a person may .legally purchase firecrackers in the U.S.A. they cannot be legally given, sold or' distributed in Goderich • (or Ontario generally). This recently happened in our town. Safety is the main thing and that is why generally firecrackers are banned (a federal statute also governs, strict control on certain pyrotechnic devices). So ... only FAMILY FIREWORKS are permit- ted. Yours truly, Patrick D. King, Chief of Police. P.S.
