Mrs. Walker, Don Kobe of Grand Bend and Rey. Anderson, in repotting for the group, outlined w,hat they felt Were shortcomhIge in Presbytery procedures and then went on to propose :a number • of solutions for consideration. They had met not - to criticize, said Anderson, but to share ideas and perhaps share im- provements. One of the key proposals was more meetings, some in the form of workshops in order that more intelligent decisions could be made with better follow up. Should Presbytery be divided? That was a question asked by the group. Are there too many issues? Should there be a more spiritual tone, more celebration and more education? Getting to know one another was suggested as another priority as well as orientation for new delegates. It was indicated that there was a large gap between Presbytery and the local congregations. As a result of the ad hoc committees' deliberations the executive was asked to review with the committees the functions of the court and report recommendations in the fall. Remit on Initiation The Presbytery took ac- tion to • study the United Church's first remit since the United Church was formed in 1925. General Council has asked each pastoral charge to evaluate the document on the difficulties and in- consistencies in doctrine and practice concerning bap- tisms, confirmation and church membership. To assist congregations, a recommendation submitted by the Reverend Bruce Scott of Stratford was adopted to hold a special; meeting Presbytery in June. . lion Kobe, reporting for the • ivision :of .World Outreach, questioned the value Of TV programs that mislead viewers. y reference was to 60 Minutes which it was felt discredited the World Council of Chum*. Printed materials refuting 60 Minutes' viewpoints were quoted, The Reverend John Roberts urged the delegates to encourage their congregations to make the. initial preparations for Ventures in Missions and cautioned them to keep an. open mind until the program had been studied. Elect New Executive The Reverend Ross Cummings of Stratford was elected chairman of Huron - Perth at the meeting. He was inducted by outgoing chairman, the Reverend Norman Gibson of Stratford and secretary, the,Reverend Brian Elder of Crediton. Vice -chairperson is Mrs. Myrtle • Walkom / of Thamesview. The Reverend Lloyd Martin of Gorrie will head the Division of Ministry, Personnel and Education; the Reverend Roy Babstock of Stratford, the manse committee; the Reverend Rae Grant of Wingham, stewardship; the Reverend Cy Marzec of- Fordwich, pastoral over- sight and Mrs. Alice Knechtel of Stratford, ar- chives. The Reverend John Davies of Stratford and the Reverend John Roberts who head Ventures in Mission were made member and associate member respectively of the executive. Terms of four division chairmen have not expired and they will con- tinue on the executive: the Reverend Swan of Walton, World Outreach; the Reverend Scott, Mission in Canada; Charles Gates of Stratford, finance and the Reverend Robert Ball of Goderich, communications. God.erich children to travel to St. Paul's Cathedral On Saturday, May 14 the children of St. George's Anglican Church in Goderich, will be travelling to St. Paul's Cathedral in London to participate in the "Children's Festival 83". This event is sponsored by the Anglican Diocese of Huron. Children's Festival is a day when everything is geared for the enjoyment, understanding and active participation of youngsters from five to 13 years of age, as well as their teen and adult leaders. Following a parade, and after the worship in the church, the children will disperse across the church lawn for lunch, and then an afternoon involved in games, crafts, drama, and song— all with a religious theme. The Festival is a chance for the children to feel part of the wider Christian com- munity, an opportunity to meet with one of their Bishops, as well as a time to really enjoy themselves — all in Christ's Name. The Festival began a number of years ago in St. Paul's Anglican Cathedral in London, but because the Diocese is so large, and the Festival so popular, two more Festivals have had to be added. Now over 3,000 children will be attending similar Festivals, on the same day, in three different cities ... Owen Sound, Windsor and London. All this so the children of the Anglican Diocese of Huren may really come to know how wonderful God's people are. Within them they have wonderful possibilities! Within them they have "WINGS". It will be a day of celebration. Coming two days after Ascension, the theme is appropriate and permits the preparation of the children for the story of Ascension through the festivals. Bishop T. David 13. Flagg attaches great importance to the festivals to emphasize that the church belongs to the children too. Bishop Ragg will be par- ticipating in the London Festival at St. Paul's Cathedral, with Suffragan Bishops Rt. Rev. Morse Robinson and Rt. Rev. Der- wyn Jones presiding at St. George's, Owen Sound, and at the Harrow Arena, the lat- ter accommodating the at- tendance from the large Windsor area.
