LOOKING
BACK
Frank Bennett has opened
the Home Bakery on the
Square in the premises
formerly occupied by the
hydro office.
Seventy harness horse's,
including the fastest in
Canada, were entered in the
Civic Holiday race meet
planned by the Goderich
Trotting and Pacing
Association. This was a
record number of entries.
The luck of commercial
fishermen is improving
every week. Catches,anostly
trout, are now running from
.300 to 500 pounds.
After hearing Councillor
William Tipple's hard-
hitting appeal for swift
action, town council Friday
voted to proceed with a 22 -
unit subsidized rental
housing project. The site of
the project, on South Street
across from GDCI, is
already owned by CMHC.
Premier Leslie Frost will
visit Goderich this evening
and attend a, reception at
GDCI at which some 1,000
people are expected from
various parts of the county.
With Premier 'Frost will be
Charles MacNaughton,, the..
PC candidate for Monday's
by-election in Huron.
The application of the
County of Huron for relief
from its obligation to rebuild
the.old bridge.on..Nighway 21
over. the Bayfield River at
the village of Bayfield has
been approved by the
Ontario Municipal Board.
5 YEARS AG()
The Goderich Sports
Committee will proceed with
plans for a new grandstand
and lighting improvements
for the soccer field and two
hall diamonds at
Agricultural Park at a cost
of $306,000 The committee
passed a motion at a special
meeting last Wednesday t ;
proceed with all p posed
segments at Agricultural
Park, and maintain
responsibility ,to raise
$120,000 which is the com-
munity's share of the cost
after grants.
Forty-four cyclists par-
ticipated in the Goderich
Great •Ride for Cancer
Sunday and raised .over
$1,000 for the Huron Unit of
the Canadian Cancer
Society.
Word has been received
from the Ministry of
Transportation and Com-
munication that the town of
Goderich's funding for the
work on Highway 21 has been
approved.
With letters for Exeter,
Wingham and Seaforth
supporting Goderich as the
central location for the
proposed police com-
munications system in
Huron, Clinton Council on
Monday night decided to go
along with the majority.
