Dear Editor:
As you've probably heard,
Bluewater Centre is closing.
According, to the London
Free Press the closing date
is October al, 1983. We have
yet to receive our ter-
mination papers and when
we do (we have verbally
been told) we have six
months to prepare for the
closure: If this is true then
October 31, 1983 cannot be
the closing date.
When people ask me when
are we closing or what's
happening at BWC con-
cerning the impending
closure I tell them to read
the Free• Press or listen to
the news on the radio or T.V.
That's how we find out in-
formation. We don't know
any more than the average
person off the street.
This past weekend CKNX
news stated Kincardine is
opening a group , home and
plan to accommodate some
of our residents. A concerned
parent phoned that night to
see if we knew anymore
informatiori about it and of
course we didn't; it was the
first we knew anything about
it.
In January of '83 Murray
Hamilton came out here to
speak with the staff. He said
BWC had a ninety percent
chance of being made over
into a correctional facility
for juvenile offenders. Now
rumor has it the place will be
left empty.
So if anyone has any more
questions about BWC's im-
pending closure, or what's
going to happen to our
residents, don't ask the
councillors. They only work
there.

Festival raising funds
Dear Editor,
Believe it or not, it's been
eight years since the Blyth
Festival presented its first
play on the stage of Blyth
Memorial Hall. Only through
the loyal support of the peo-
ple ofour region, the hard
workers at the Festival, the
Canada Council and the On-
tario. Arts Council have we
been able to be financially
successful anal we would like
to continue to grow and stay
in the "black". .
May is our annual fund-
raising campaign month. It
is also the month we start to
think of summertime, sun-
shine, and the warm, radiant
glow of a mid -summer's day
... these things will soon be
upon us and with them will
come that celebrational
sense of the opening of Blyth
Festival '83 on June 24.
We are so fortunate to
have a successful theatre
that is making headlines
across the country, right at
our fingertips to enjoy.
Janet Amos has another
exciting season planned for
us with an excellent cross-
section of topical themes.
You can get a head start on
getting the best seats by
subscribing. early through
our handy voucher packages
which are on sale until June
18 at only $20 for four
vouchers that can then be ex-
changed for tickets. anytime.
This is a saving of $8 by pur-
chasing early.
• Please join us in continu-
ing to make • the Blyth
Festival a success by pur-
chasing a general member-
ship at $10; a supporting
membership at $25; an
associate membership at
$50; a Patron at $100 or
more. Tax deductible
receipts are issued for all
donations $10 and over.
I'm sure you have noticed.
by this point of my "plea"
that I refer to our theatre as
the Blyth Festival. Why not
the Myth Summer Festival?
Because we are active in
fall, winter and spring as
well. Our program of music,
theatre and children's per-
formances featuring
renowned names; the art
gallery and the dedicated,80-
member choir the Blyth
Festival Singers that pulls
members from as far as
Huron Park and Listowel, all
keep. Memorial Hall busy -
year -round.
We extend a special invita-
tion for you to share in the
excitement of live Canadian
theatre. We know your after-
noon or evening will be
pleasureably spent.
Wouldn't you like to
become involved as a new
member (or if you've been a
member, wouldn't you like
to renew your member-
ship)? Back a winner. Call
the box office for more infor-
mation at 523-9300 or myself
at 523-4331.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Herman

William Marsh, a former Colborne Township farmer and Goderich resident, celebrated his
98th birthday this week. After retiring from farming, Marsh worked as a lineman for the
township phone company well into his 70s. (photo by Dave Sykes)
Indomitable spirit keeps
William Marsh going at 98
After falling off his porch
roof at the age of 94 and
fracturing several vertebrae
in the process, William
Marsh was not expected to
walk again.
That was over three years
ago and Walsh takes great
delight in recounting the day
months later when he
walked, unaided, into his
Huronview home.
This week the former
Colborne Township farmer
and lineman celebrated his
98th birthday and Sunday
was honored by family and
friends at the home of his
daughter Mrs. Melvin Bell of
Goderich.
Possessing a zest for life
and an indomitable spirit
that belies his 98 years,
Marsh was born in Hallett
Township near Ball's
Cemetery in 1885. He left
home to work on the railroad
in London but returned in
1913 to marry and settle in
Auburn.
Farm life lured the young
couple to Colborne Township
in 1919 and Marsh farmed
there until 1946. Three years
later he moved to the town of
Goderich.
While most men would be
content to retire to a more
sedate life at age 65, Marsh
took on a job as telephone
lineman with the Colborne
Telephone Company in the
early 1950s. For nearly eight
years and approaching his
74th year, .Marsh repaired
and installed telephones and
clambered up poles to
conduct repairs.
Marsh refused to succumb
to inactivity but he almost
paid dearly for his work
ethic. At age 94, he fell from
his porch roof while com-
pleting repairs, fracturing
several. vertebrae. Doctors
conceded there was little
chance Marsh would walk
again, let alone without
artificial aids'.
Months later he strode into
Huronview Home for the
Aged with the aid of a cane,
again defying logic., as he
had done all his life.
While he has settled into
the routine of life at
Huronview, it is apparent
that William Marsh probably
still has difficulty containing
that indomitable spirit.
