Airport to be advertised
The Goderich Airport Committee has
authorized the printing and circulation of
a pamphlet advertising local airport
facilities.
The pamphlet was prepared by Airport
Committee Chairman Dick Wright and
will be inserted into the Goderich Tourist
Committee's brochure as well as being
distributed to other airports. It will cost
approximately $200-$250 to be printed.
Tenders called
Tenders have been advertised for the
construction of the proposed terminal
building at the airport. These tenders will
be opened by town council on May 6and
construction on the building could begin
within the month.
Searls against
Last week in community news it was
reported that town employee Peter Spain
had been promoted to parks supervisor.
The motion, was passed by a 6-1 margin
in a recorded vote with councillor Jim
Searls voting against the motion. Searls
suggested the promotion and resultant
salary increase should have been held
over until 1984 when town employees are
offered a new wage and salary
agreement.
New diamonds
Goderich Men's Slo-Pitch League
President, Tim Frawley approached the
board to enquire whether two new
baseball diamonds could be constructed
in town. Frawley explained the league
feels there is a need for more diamonds
and he informed the board, the
organization would be willing to invest
$6,000 in the project.
Frawley was told the idea was in-
vestigated last year by Recreation
Dire ter Jane Netzke and Commissioner
of ,Works, Ken Hunter, but no suitable

land could be found.
After discussing the matter at great
length with the board Frawley told the
members if the league did buy land and
built diamonds they would no longer use
the town's facilities.
This remark led Reeve, Harry Worsell
to question Frawley as to why the league
was asking for two more diamonds.
However, r Frawley explained the
scheduling of tournaments presses the
teams for playing time and owning their
own diamonds would eliminate this
problem.
Board members gave Frawley a few
suggestions as to certain companies and
individuals who might allow diamonds to
be built on their land. The league,
president said he would investigate
Fee waived
The Goderich Ringette Association was
given a helping hand from the Recreation
Board when the board met on Thursday,
April 28. At the meeting it was decided to
waive a $648.29 deficit which the
association had incurred during the past
season.
Initially when Ringette Association
Representative Bob Gibbons approached
the board he asked members if they had
any suggestions as to how the
organization could raise money to pay
the debt.
After discussing certain fund raising
possibilities Councillor John Doherty
made a motion to waive the deficit. All
board members agreed and it was
decided to take the money from the
Group Support Fund.

Health
classes
popular
"Huron County Health
Unit invites you to attend the
Expectant Parent Classes".
This caption is seen four
times, a year in the local
newspapers inviting both ex-
pectant mothers and fathers
to attend the series of six to
seven classes to learn more
about prenatal care, birth of
the baby,'. care of the
newborn,1 family .adjust-
ment, etc. These classes are
popular and are intended to
make the expectant parent
or parents' more
knowledgeable and
therefore more comfortable
about the upcoming birth.:
The classes are taught by
a Public Health Nurse and.,
are divided into two sections.
The first. section, of• Early
Bird Classes, consist of two
classes where anatomy and
reproduction, development
of the unborn child, effects of
drugs, alcohol and smoking
on the baby, and nutrition
are discussed. These two
classes are aimed at those
who are early on in their
'pregnancy. The six regular
classes are designed for
those later in their pregnan-
cy. Discussions in these
classes include labour and
delivery, care of the mother,
care of the newborn, feeding
the baby and family adjust-
ment. A tour of the hospital
is also scheduled. As well,
•the six regular classes also
include a time for relaxation
exercises, Muscle toning ex-
ercises and breathing exer-
cises based on the Lamaze
method of prepared childbir-
th.
Both the discussions and
exercises aim to make the
parent or parents feel com-
fortable and "not so_.scared
about the whole thing" .
