Huronview resident dies A. LESLIE SMITH A. Leslie Smith of Huronview, formerly of Goderich, died in Huronview on Saturday, April 30 at the age of 78. He was born in West Wawanosh Township on September 14, 1904 to William James and Ellen Jane Smith. He lived • in West Wawanosh until moving to Ashfield Township as a child. Smith of Goderich one daughter, Mrs. Fran ( Mildred) Little o Goderich; one, brother, Oliver Smith of Ripley; One sister, Mrs. Frank (Evelyn) Wilcox of Goderich; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Stiles Funeral Home in Goderich on Monday, May 2 at 2 p.m. The Reverend G.L. Royal officiated. Interment was in the Maitland Cemetery. Pallbearers were Russell and Keith Ritchie; Wes and Alex Nivins, Wes, Kevin and Craig Smith and Jack Little. Flower bearers were Lori Hildebrand, Joni Dalton, Carolyn Carter and Nancy Little. PAPENHAGEN Anabelle Lilian (MacKenzie) Howes of Ash- field Township died ' on Friday, April 22 in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital. She was born in Ashfield Township in 1904 to Murdock and Annie (Chambers) MacKenzie. She attended elementary school in Ash- field Township and high school in Goderich. She graduated from Stratford Teachers College and taught for six years at Montacella in East Luther '''ownship and later ht Port Albert. The late Mrs. Howes also taught Sunday School for many years at Ashfield Presbyterian Church and was a faithful member of the Women's Missionary Society Frank W. Papenhagen - died at his residence in Fort Myers Beach, Florida on April 10 in his 83rd year. He was a native of Defiance, Ohio where for many years he owned and operated Defiance Printing and Engraving Company. In 1971, along with his wife Marion, he took up per- manent residence in Fort Myers. The late Mr. Papenhagen was an annual visitor to Goderich for more than 45 years. His wife is the daughter of Mary Jane Simpson who was a daughter of George and Mary Ann Simpson, pioneer family of ' the Sheppardton district. Mrs. Papenhagen's uncle, John Simpson operated a general store at Sheppardton for many years and was also well known in Goderich. The late Mr. Papenhagen is survived by his wife; a daughter,'Mrs. W. Ballard of San Francisco; and a son, Frank W. Papenhagen of Defiance, Ohio. A memorial service was held at St. Rapael's Episcopal Church on April 13 at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Defiance, Ohio. Board sets calendar year for county schools The Huron County Board of Education approved the 1983-84 school year calendar at its April 5 meeting incorporating the two week Christmas holiday and week earlier March break approved previously. The usual school holidays include Thanksgiving Day on Oct. 10, Christmas holidays from Dec. 19 to Jan. 1, winter break from March 12 to 16 Good Fri- day on April 20, Easter Monday on April ?3 and Vic- toria Day on May 21. . The professional activity days for elementary and trainable mentally retarded schools are on Friday, Sept. 23; Friday, Oct. 28; Wednesday, Nov. 23; Fri- day, Feb. 24; Friday, May 4; Monday, June 4 and Wednesday, June 27 to Friday, June 29, County -wide PA days for the secondary schools will be held on Friday, Oct. 28; Monday, April 2 and from Monday, June 25 to Friday, June 29. Seaforth District High School will be holding its own PA . days on Thursday, Jan. 26 and Friday, Jan. 27. South 1-luron , District High School will be holding additional PA days on Friday, Feb..3 and Friday, June 22: -Central ITuroti Secondarryy School, Clinton; F. E.
