Before you begin putting
panels .up, though, be ab-
solutely certain they are pro-
perly cut and will fit, the wall
space you want to cover, To
apply, use panel adhesive -

justments.°

If you have been thinking of finishing that cellar or con-
verting the basement into an all-purpose room, try
creating a media centre that doubles as an entertainment
area. To get a beautiful, rustic look, use Italian terra cotta
tiles on the floor and wooden paneling on the walls. Build a
wine rack out of open crates and keep audio visual
equipment 1n a wooden unit.. Decorate with clay pots filled
with dry flowers, and keep furnishings simple.

by a garden hose, are
available for use inalready
constructed pools. '
A heavy duty vinyl pool
cover, averaging around
$200 for a rectangular home
pool, can be a sound main-
tenance investment. Kept on
the pool during the winter
months, it will elmininate
much of the spring clean up
chore.
A cover also makes sense
in summertime when the
owner plans to be gone for
two weeks or more — both to
keep the pool clean and to
keep out univited swimmers.
Special problems may
arise, however, even in well
maintained pools. One of
these in algae. Algae com-
monly appears in two forms:
black algae, which makes
unsightly spots on pool walls,
and green floating algae.
Both are normally taken
care of by a.regular main-
tenance program, but
stubborn cases may be
treated by vigorous brushing
of spots, followed by ap-
plication of spot .killer and
use of special inexpensive
algaecides.
Another problem, red -
brown discolored water, is
caused by a high con-
centration of dissolved iron.
Disinfectants may oxidize
this dissolved iron, leaving
rust particles in the pool.
Use oxidizing sanitizer and
run the filtration. system for
48 hours straight to clear out
the particles. Should par-
ticles settle to the bottom,
they should be vacuumed up
immediately to avoid
staining the pool bottom.

If the outer edge does not
fall directly on a stud, you
should scribe or mark the
panel to the adjacent wall so
the panel's edge comes to the.
centre of the studs. This will
allow room for nailing, your
neat panel.
Hint: Once you locate a
joint, paint a matching color
strip on the wall along its
length,- so that any gap you
leave between panel edges
will be less. noticeable. •

Your main bathroom
should have enough room for
such extras as a medicine
cabinet, vanity, towel racks,
linen storage space and a
laundry hamper.
Sometimes the private
areas of your home are
separated from the rest of
the house by putting them on
a separate floor. If this is the
case, make sure the stair-
ways are located in halls and
not in a room.
The Ontario Real Estate
Association believes your
home will be more comfor-
table if it is laid out in a
logical, orderly pattern.
Nails are available to
match most panelling color finishes; in one -inch size for
