However, it should be ,ob,
vious.to this Tory govern -
menet that their wage
- restraint legislation coupled
with Liberal nigh interest
rates has resulted in many
Ontario workers being
unemployed or with serious-
ly reduced . buying power.
Fewer tax dollars have been
available to . the treasury,
more welfare payments
have had to be made, and the
result has been a cutback in
essential services such as
health care. Priority pro-
, jects, like renovatingMinaki
lodge (40 million) for vaca-
tioning F.C. caucus
members, and various Trpst
company takeovers, have
been a serious drain on the
Provincial coffers, and the
only way out, apparently, is
to stick . us' .. again- .. with
premium increases or the
threat of user pay fees. One
should take note that the
three provinces charging
health care premiums and -
or user fees are all Con-
servative, though the B.C.
Tories call ' themselves
Social Credit.
In the 1950s 'a. :doctors visit

all his we, this represented
25 percent of ' his weekly
wage - a lot of money then. In
ordelr to pay for all our
medical care, he and my
mother went without, and
their' health suffered.
Prescriptions, before
benefits won by hard collec-
tive bargaining and strikes,
presented another financial
hardship, as was dental and
eye care. Yet this provincial
government, with what
seems to be encouragement
frons- the Medical Associa-

back to those difficult and
unjust times.
Health care is expensive,
without a doubt, but can
anyone deny that the richest

be obligated to guarantee the
best possible-health-care'for
