Dear ditor
We five rColborne
Township an Hghway 21,and .
recently a tree was cut down
on our property by the
lklinistry of Communications
and Transportation. A tree
was also cut down on the
adjoining property.
We believe the policy is
that the pr.' erty ' owners
have first choice of the wood
and after that anyone can
take it.. Unfortunately, we
were not even given the
choice. The trees were cut
down before noon when no-
one was home and when
someone returned home
around 3:30 p.m., the wood
from both trees had gone.
We were not allowed the
choice. Whoever took the
wood did so during the few
hours no-one was home. The
fact that no-one was there to
tell them to leave it alone,
,did not mean we did not want
the wood. We have been
waiting all winter for the
tree to be cut down and now
we have to buy wood.
This tree for firewood was
small compensation for the
amount of work we have to
do to maintain that part of
our property bordered by the
highway. Every spring we
spend days raking the
gravel, stones and sand off
the grass and back on to the
shoulder of the road thrown
there by the snowploughs in
the winter,. Not to mention,
the broken ,,glass, beer .bot-
tles and other garbage that
we have to pick up. In the
summer we cut the grass
and trim around the trees.
Since the tree has been cut
down, we are still in the
process of cleaning up that
area. The twigs and sawdust
has to be raked up, pieces of
twigs and branches have to
be pulled out of the ground,
holes have to be filled in and
patches of grass replaced.
You will understand our
anger considering the
amount..a wor-it involuedand
someone else,.got the wood.!
We have written ,.to the
authority concerned as we
feel property owners should
be notified a few days before
a tree is going to be cut
down, so that if they are not
going to be home, they can
make. sure someone will be
there.
Wood is at such a premium
now and it is obvious that
people are acting quickly
and are taking what is not
rightfully theirs befcre the
property owners have the
choice. It is like stealing and
we hope whoever took that
wood may read this and feel,
a little guilty. After all - we
needed that wood!

Wi11 taxpayer help with funding?
Dear Editor:
I have learned that the ap-
plicants for director of the
group homes were question-
ed about their ability and ex-
perience in fund raising. I
was of the opinion that resi-
dent care should have top
priority, so I contacted the
administrator of ar. ,ther
home which is also funded on
the 80-20 formula. The
response indicated that fund
raising was very important
and also offered to share
their "endless information".
I was forced to conclude
that the places with 80-20
funding are forced to com-
rpete with the Heart Fund,
`the Cancer Society, the Blind
Canvass, the March of
Dimes, the Scouts, etc. I feel
that the public 'needs to be
aware that the alternative
places planned for the Men-
tally Retarded will fall into
this category.
Now, lest someone wants
. to accuse me of "walking by
on the other side" I want to
say that I do not object to
paying my taxes so the

ed his information:
Our policy has always
been to shake hands before
each and every game played
- not after. This is in accor-
dance with our O.M.H.A.
Tri -County Rule book - Rule
No. 4D. Due to tempers
which sometimes run high
after a ,game, this does ap-
pear to be a good policy.
In the game referred to,
our boys were waiting to
shake hands at. the start of
the game, but the opposing
team went to their bench.
We certainly do not want
any misunderstandings with
the organizers of this fine
tournament, as ourboys
really ' enjoyed themselves.
Perhaps the tournament
organizers could review and
make clear their position on
"handshaking", either
before or after.
We feel Mr. Reiner's
remarks were uncalled for
and pure assumption that
the boys never shake hands.
In no way do we, as
coaching staff for this team,
discourage good sportsman-
ship.

retarded may continue to
have 100 percent funded
care. I want them to con-
tinue having the care given
by trained staff, enjoy the
swimming pools, the dances,
• the movies, and other
recreation. I am happy that
they have workshops, the
garden, farm and camp.
I strongly object to the
residents being moved to ,
small group homes, where
the level of care, recreation
and training may be depen-
dent on whether or not they
have managed to get a
significant shareof our
"charity dollars".
And in closing I would re-
mind my fellow taxpayers,
that if the retarded are mov-
ed from 100 percent funded
care to 80-20 care we need
not expect our taxes to come
down. No doubt our govern-
ment will find another large
corporation to bail out, or
they will want another ex-
ecutive jet.
Yours truly,
Dorothy Potter,
