Yesterday afternoon His Honor Judge Doyle decided the mayoralty tangle in Goderich, his verdict being that Dr.. Macklin holds the seat by a majority of one. The Blackstone Orchestra was much appreciated at the opening of Cameron and Moore millinery this week. The West Street skating rink re -opened on Tuesday evening and though the attendance was not large, those present had the best ice of the season for a skate. Net making and net mending for the season's fishing are employing many hands just now and this work has given considerable employment during the past winter. The nets made and repaired here are used in Lake Huron and the Georgian -Bay. 50 YEARS AGO Fire, believed to have been caused by an overheated stove, damaged the Dominion Store in Goderich this week. The store was closed for a few days while repairs were being made. Councillor Brown has suggested that the town team be used to haul wood gathered on the beaches by citizens who are on relief. It has been announced that education costs in the town will be down by more than $2,000 in 1933. 25 YEARS AGO When the majority of Huron goes to the polls on Monday for the federal election, in common with the rest of Canada, therc will be 225 more eligible voters this time than there were for the June 10th election of last year. Returning Officer J.K. Hunter states there are 25,317 eligible voters in the riding of Huron for Monday's vote. Tuesday was the first day since February 23 that the teachers had an option to return to the classroom and after an Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation District 45 executive council meeting Monday night, the teachers elected to continue their 23 day old strike. The Ontario Ministry of, ' Housing has accepted the town's offer to sell a three- quarter acre piece of property at West and Waterloo Streets to the province for the purpose of building a 53 -unit senior citizens housing develop- ment. Three tenders for the construction of the Goderich and District Community Grandstand were received at Monday evening's meeting of the Goderich Sports Committee. However, the newly formed committee decided not to accept any of the tenders until hiring a consulting engineer of their own to advise on the three different packages and to later inspect the project at various stages of con- struction. • I SKINNE FFULLYCOOK NOKDED-11Am SPECIALS IN EFFECT MONDAY, MARCH 28 UNTIL CLOSING TUES.
