The Land Division's 1983 budget of $49,400 was ap- proved at the March 3 meeting of Huron County council. "Are we not compelled, by action taken here this morning (two budgets were sent back to committee) to send this back?" asked Bayfield Reeve David Johnston. Farm story in error A story in last week's paper entitled "Federation opposes farm tax program is in error. The story says the tax -'rebate proposal allows farmers to apply for 100 per cent rebate of their farm land taxes while paying 100 per cent tax on their homes and farm buildings when, in fact, the farmer .will be able to receive a rebate of 100 per tent of the taxes on his farm property, land and farm buil4ings:' The story says the propbsal allows for a 5.0 per cent rebate for the land on which the buildings are located when in •fact, the farmer will pay 100 per cent of his taxes on his house and an !imaginary or "deemed" lot. The lot, because it cannot be severed, will be assessed at 50 per cent of a similar severed lot. Land division committee chairman Cecil Desjardine said the budget is only an estimate and the figures could change. He added that the committee has cut back by reducing their usual full day meetings to half day meetings. One reeve suggested the committee meet once every two months, but clerk - treasurer William Hanly said by law the committee has to meet once every 30 days. The revenue received from fees has been budgeted at $20,000 down from $24,000 in 1982. Mr. Desjardine noted the fees decreased last year but added more fees may be received this year as to date land severance applications are up. I.t was acknowledged that the fee never covers the cost of administration. Land severance fees currently stand at $100 per application plus $200 if the application is approved.
