The Oust place Foresters Wit ea.'giant step in the race for the :to by. defeating a strong challenge from Local 1,63, Oa* Bogie, Jim. Hateldii , Roger Moore and Jamieson Ribey combined their considerable talents to producebig ends in the early stages .of the encounter and .then; eliminated any union. rock in the vicinity of the house to safeguard this im- portant triumph. These four gentlemen also represented the Industrial League in last week's Club Championship for the coveted Worsell Broom and for the second year in a row, the Industrial league proved to be the strongest in the club: On the chance that some non -Industrial League curlers might read this report, the Industrial League curlers would like to issue a challenge for next year to all segments of the club to try and, take the "Broom" from our hands. Congratulations Foresters and to Lynn Todgam who organized a very corn- petitive and enjoyable day. The A.M.G. Hospital four- some has found itself in five extra end contests this season and on all five occa- sions they have lost. In all of these matches, the final shot of the extra end has been in the hands of the opposing skip and in all cases that skip has risen to the challenge. Health Unit skip, Jack MacKinnon added his name to this illustrious list as he hit and stayed with his extra end effort to move his team into a tie for second place with Local 1865. Hospital skip, Jim Rourke, has been forced by this pattern to change his strategy. "Next week," he announced, "A.M.G. will not try to tie the game in the eighth end. We will tie it in the extra end!" This "medical" contest was not the only nail-biting ektra end affair of the even- ing. Victoria and Grey took the Sifto-Salt "Maniacs" down this road as well but they too had to watch as the opposing skip attempted his last win or lose shot. Head "Maniac" Don "Don't Doubt Me" Dickie had the entire house to draw to for the vic- tory. And he used it all! Dickie's last shot appeared heavy as, he let it go; V&G spirits rose; Maniac sweepers jumped on it and V&G spirits soared. But Don was just teasing and his rock came to rest at the back edge of the twelve foot circle. The V&G team took the tough loss with grace but Kathy • Denomy was heard to remark 'Anything that deep in the house at that point in the game is indecent." The fact that V&G allowed their opponents to score in only two ends prior to the extra end added further disap- pointment to the defeat. The GDCI Teacher No. 1 team was able to emphathize with the V&G foursome as they too controlled most of the ends against their op- position the GDCI Teacher No. 2 unit. Unfortunately for one set of teachers, when the Teacher No. 2 group won an end, they won it BIG. Two four point ends were, the key in their 9 to 8 triumph. Also important, however, was the fine work of vice Dave Cloet and the skipping of Chris Connor. Connor showed clearly that good strategy is only good if you make the shots and Connor & Co. make many good shots. The GDCI Teacher No. 2 squad also had stamina as they returned to the ice to play a second game on this night against the Lady Golfers. Friendly on most occasions, the Lady Golfers can also display a mean streak when riled. This was one of those times! Most nas- ty were Kay Duncan and Lynn Todgam who obviously were not concerned about their teenage daughters high school exam success. The real key to the victory, • ,however, was the addition of Doreen Garrow who -once again showed who wears the pants in, the Garrow household. Fatigue showed inthe late ends as a close game started to get away from the teachers in the sixth end. An excellent pair of shots by Eleanor Erskine in the seventh and sealed the educators fate and Turn to page 5A !VI At' LKI1l O.` 1w t $50,0.0L a. each tlrllme A Map• e pley ' SUPER BONUS GAME Sunday,`March 21stonly Name: , .79 JI Address:. .......• , .. • . • • • 9 9 Phone:. • • .. •• , Leave this ballot with Ilia Aii,P FOOd Stora cashier ormeil to A&P Goal Rush.
