Honours and Awards Night of Legion Branch 109 and the Ladles' Auxiliary was held• in the Jubilee Room on Saturday, March 5. Branch President Claire Bedard conducted the opening ceremony. and welcomed the 171 members and their guests who were present. During the Auxiliary portion of the program, which was chaired by Branch Auxiliary President Sharon Seruton, 21 members of the Ladies' Auxiliary were recognized with personal remembrances for their contributions to the work of the Auxiliary. A commemorative medal was presented to Laura McLarty and awards were also received by Comrades Sharon Scruton, Carolyn Holborn and Harold Chambers for their out- standing assistance to the Auxiliary. The presentations on behalf of the Auxiliary were made by Comrades Kay McAstocker, Margaret Lightfoot and Eileen Harrison. The Branch awards ceremony was conducted by Public Relations Chairman Neil Shaw assisted by Zone Commander Robert Chapman and Past Presidents Ralph Kingswell and Roy Mugford. Year pins ranging from ten to 35 were received by a• number of members for continuous- years of mem- bership in the Branch. Honourary members also received their membership pins. Personal remembrances were presented to the family of the late Leo Ouellette, Vera Chambers, Edna Doak, Mona Davis and John Duck- worth. Past President Ed Tonics, on behalf of the Royal Canadian Navy Association, presented a carved plaque to the Branch for its assistance and co-operation with the newly formed local branch of this association. Resident enjoys bus trip to States ."_ Rhetta MacLennan has re-, turned home , after a two week bus trip to•the southern United States. The first week of their trip was plagued with wet weather. They travelled as far south as Lakeland, Florida. Liz had spoken in Wingham the week before and came first.. Mr. and Mrs. Len Evans of Toronto spent the weekend in Kincardine with Mr. and Mrs. Oliver McCharles. Mr. and Mrs. Dot Mac- Lean of Huntsville spent the weekend with Ewan and Marj MacLean. All attended the funeral of the late Archie MacMillan in Lucknow. We are very glad to report that Murray Henderson, who is in Victoria Hospital in London, is now corning along very well after surgery. Best of health, Murray. Get well soon. , Nivins win euchre tourney - A very. successful euchre tournament was held on Saturday at the'- Agriculture Hall. Forty-four couples com- peted for the top prizes of trophies and cash. First priz- es of a trophy and '530 were, won by Wes and Kay Nivins. Second prize of a trophy and $20 were won by Rob Hoak and Brad Eliot. Third prize of a mirror and $10 were won by Doug Brown and Jack Tigert. Two hams were also given as door prizes, donated by Barry Brown.
