New concept A men's shoe store, Man's First Step, has just opened in the Suncoast Mall and is owned . by Don Corriveau and managed by Brian Reed. The store's name originated because Corriveau felt the concept of the store was a totally new step. Basically Corriveau takes brand .name stock, tears it down and rebuilds the shoe into proper fitting orthopedic footwear., Corriveaus says all of this is done without losing the shoe's stylish design.. BUSINESS BEAT Man's First Step carries a wide variety of dress and casual shoes up to 5E widths. Specialized shoes Don Corriveau, owner of Don's Shoe Place, has opened an Athlete's Foot franchise in the Suncoast Mall. Managed by Brian Reed, the store caters to men, women and children who Corriveau says, "are interested in purchasing proper fitting athletic foot- wear." e, Brookes, Adidas and Converse only a few of the brand names which are in stock. But since Corriveau's franchise is only one of 50 Atlete's Foot stores he says, "If someone is interested in purchasing footwear -for a specialized sport there shouldn't be any difficulty in getting it." Besides selling footwear the store also offers athletic clothing such as rugby pants, jogging suits and rain gear. "With the exception of hockey we can outfit any athlete," Corriveau explains. The store also carries accessories such as shoe races and foot care products. This increase is the lowest since 1978 when the increase also was five per cent. Since then taxes have gone up by 10.5 per cent (1979), 8.4 per cent (1980), 14.6 per cent (1981) and 10.5 per cent (1982). Finance Chairman Jack Kopas said a number of factors have contributed to hold down the tax increase. One is the provincial in- flation restraint . program, limiting municipal wage and salary increases to five per cent. Another is the $64,000 surplus accumulated by the town over the past two years. A third is what he described as "bare bones" budgeting, while the fourth is the "careful and selective. utilization of various grant programs," such as the Ontario Neighboorhood Improvement Program which will contribute $175,000 to streets and selected other services over . the next several years.
