How's your lawn??
Would you decorate your

carpet on the floor?
How often in mid or late
summer do, yoU see a lovely
home, be it a modern
executive type, a stately old
house or a cozy cottage,
sitting on a brown -patchy
green carpet?
As lawns (especially
'mowing') is primarily dad's
job - mom can look after the
flowers - your local Garden
Club has been fortunate in
engaging Ed Martin,
Director of Parks and
Recreation for Stratford, to
speak on this very important
subject of lawns and lawn
care. With Spring starting m
February this year, and a
speaker like Ed who is a
graduate of the Niagara
School of Horticulture, we
should be off to a good start
on that very important
carpet surrounding our
homes.
Following the lecture, Ed
will conduct a question and

Council authorizes stop sign
pills and accounts in the
total amount of $49,727.63
were approved for payrnent
by Colborne Township Coun-
cil at their regular meeting
on Tuesday, March 1.
Road Superintendent Ron
Durnin presented his
preliminary road budget for
1983 and after some discus-
sion, council deferred final
consideration until eon -
sideration of the whole
township budget.
• Fled Sandy and MacEwan
Egener spoke to council con-
cerning the condition of the
gravel road leading from
County Road 37 to
Ridgewood Park. Mr. Sandy
complained that the road
was muddy and full of
potholes and asked that it be
/ rebuilt. Council felt that
from what they knew of the
road, it was in as good shape
as the majority of township
roads which were gen4ally
considered to be in good
shape this spring. Council
said that higher priorities
were already established for
road construction in 1983, but
consideration'would be given
to placing the road in a
higher construction priority;
possibly next year or the
following year.
Approval was given the
road superintendent to at-
tend the C. S. Anderson Road
School at Guelph. The
school, sponsored by the On-
tario Good Roads Associa-
tion, will be held from May 1
to May 4.
Several complaints have
been received by the road
superintendent regarding a
possible dangerous traffic
situation at the intersection
of Mill Road and Ridgewood
Park Roadln Block A, and in
response, council passed By-
law No. 7-1983, amending By-
law No. 3-1983, to authorize
the installation of a, stop sign
requiring east -bound traffic
aiming Out of Iiidgewood
Park to stop before entering
onto Mill Road.
Council instructed the
clerk and road superinten-
dent to submit a formal ap-
plication for funding under
the Canada/Ontario
Employment Program for
improvements to the propos-
ed park area in part lot 4,
concession 1 W.D. The work,
if approved, would see im-
provement to the entrance
road, fencing of the proper-
ty, road drainage and" some
scrub bush clean-up.
An, application by Bruce
Stoll -for extension of the
period previously authorized
by a temporary building per-
mit, allowing the use Of a
mobile home trailer on part
lot 14, Lake Road East Con-
cession, was considered by
council. Because a mobile
home trailer is now allowed
as a primary residence on
agricultural land as provid-
ed in the comprehensive zon-
ing by-law, council approved
of the removal of the
designation "temporary" in
the permit. Councillor
• Douglas Stoll, brother of the
applicant, declared his con-
flict of interest because of
the close relationship, and
abstained from the council
discussion and vote. .
A letter from Barry
Million, requesting a clean-
out of the lower end of the
Mill ia n -Thom Municipal
Drain in lot 9, concession 5
E.D. was considered. For-
dyce Clark, - township
drainage inspector, will be
asked to examine the drain
and give his recommenda-
tion. Council approved , the
purchase .of one dozen 12 -
inch decals of the new
township crest for , use on
township road vehicles 'and
township signs. The decals
are to be purchased through
Dave Hemingway, Woodway
Industries, R.R.2 Bayfield.
Deputy -Reeve V anstone
advised council that Reg
Riehl of Saltford will be the
chairman of the township
recreation committee for
1983 and Mrs. Helen Riehl of
Saltford will continue as
secretary for the committee.
The meeting was then ad-
journed to 8 p.m. Tuesday,
March 15.
