The first general meeting
of the North Street U.C.W.
for 1983 was held on
Tuesday,. February 15-ixi the
ladies' - parlor. President
NancyPickell welcomed the
fine turn -out of ladies and the
meeting opened at, 8 p.m.
with the Afternoon Unit in
charge of . the -worship ser-
vice.
Being the day after
Valentine's, the theme of the
worship was "Love". Alice
Pridham read a poem en-
titled "Friends" followed by
the singing of the old
familiar hymn, "Come Let
Us Sing of a Wonderful
Love". Maude Auld
presented the scripture
lesson from 1 Corinthians 13
and 14 which included ex-
cerpts concerning the "Gifts
of the Holy Spirit" and the
"Love Passage". Marjory
Kernick gave a reading and
•a poem called "Burning
Bushes" and Hazel Habel
• .
closed the worship service
with prayer.

Zella Crawford, from the
Evening Unit, then in;
troduced the guests for the
evening. These were six
young people whom the
U.C.W., had. helped sponsor
at the Toc Alpha Conference
• In Toronto in December.
Elizabeth Bundy, Linda
Wiebe, Pam Bender, Cathy
De Bolt; Ellen Murphy and
George Zoethout gave an
excellent presentation of the
activities, programs,
• seminars and topics offered
at the conference. They
demonstrated their acting
skills in three short spon-
taneous skits.
Jean Hanly, , also
representing- the 'Evening
Unit, thanked the young
people for •attending the
meeting and giving such an
informative picture of this
conference.
Those members in at-
tendance• were then divided
into three groups with some
of the young people in each
group. This gave members
an *opportunity to ask the
young •people »» questions
about whether or not they
beneficial and if what they
learned would help them
when peer pressure Was
exerted to indulge in drugs
or alcohol.
