circumstances, Dashwood
has acted to cut costs to the
lowest possible level.

discussed with the em-
ployees and both hourly and
salaried people have agreed
to help cut costs bv:
- a 10 percent cut in all
salaries for one year
- a 'pay freeze for hourly
employees; this ; freeze
means foregoing, for ap-
proximately a year, a
Previously agreed to Union
contract increase of $1.10 an
hour. .
Shurety said, as a result of
the wage and salary con-
cessions, the company was
able to recall people to work
over the winter period to
build inventory in readiness
for the traditional spring
surge in business. Accor-
dingly, Dashwood has,
already recalled 137 people,
and may be recalling more
in the near future.

cost 'reduction steps have
been initiated.

Carpenters and Joiners of
America, Local 3054, and
Dick Lord, the Chief Steward
at Dashwood, stated open
and frankdiscussions had
been held with management
Initial signs for 1983 are
good, mortgage rates are
down, housing starts are on
the increase and, Dashwood
is looking forward to a much
improved year.
Shurety said order intake
in January was three times
higher than last year. It is
too early in the year to say if
this upward trend will
continue, but the good start
is most encouraging.
