Le Carnaval

Le Carnaval de Colborne began in
January with discussions the history of
its Carnaval.
At the. end of January each class chose a
duc and, a duchesse. Each student was
capable of earning les billets to use in
voting of their duc or duchesse:
January 4th was the official starting
date of the snow sculpturing.. Each grade
had at of.
one entry. The teams had until
February 2 to work on their sculptures. On
this day le roi et la refine were chosen. This
year's reine was Sherry Talbot of Grade 5
and the roi was Dwane Sole of Grade 6. The
winning snow sculptures were also 'an-
nounced at the assembly. The Grade 3's
won the spirit award and one of the Grade
8 groups had the winning sculpture of'Gar-
field.
To carry out the original Carnaval trad%
tion students wore ceintures flechee dur-
ing our Carnaval week Jan. 31 Feb. 4.
Due to the lack of snow, Les Activities du
Carnaval, which were to be held Friday,
February 4 ° were postponed until
Thursday, February 10. ,
There were many different games on
Thursday consisting of three-legged races,
snow soccer, snow pyramids, snow
building, broomball, dogsled races and a
tug of war. There was a rest stop where
cookies and hot chocolate were supplied
for the participants.
The mothers supplied the cookiesand
helped out in preparing a French Canadian
dish called une tortiere.
