The tenth annual Goderich Vikings
Invitational Senior . Boys' Basketball
Tournament will be held at GDCI Satur-
day. The -tournament will bring together
eight top quality basketball teams from
various areas of the province.
The tournament tips off at 9 a.m. with
thehost team GDCI Vikings meeting
London Medway. At 10:30, Korah, Sault
Ste. Marie plays Owen Sound West Hill.
London Westminster tangles ' with the
Stratford Northwestern Huskies at noon
and Georgetown meets Sarnia St. Clair m

championship semi-finals go at 3 and 4:30
with the final at 8:30 p.m. The consolation
final will precede the championship game

A tournament all-star team and most
valuable player will be selected according
to Viking coach Myles Murdock, the
tournament chairman. Sarnia St. Clair

team in a pre -tournament exhibition game

The Vikings were guilty of numerous
turnovers and had many of their shots
blocked b. the much taller Sarnia squad.
The Vi played a much Improved
game against St.''Pats, both offensively
and defensively.,
McCallum again topped the point
production with 23, Chris Starkey hit for 16
and Scott Bell hooped 12. Dave Mare, with
six, Joe Morrissey with five and -Paul
Brenner with two points rounded out the
Vikings' attack.
The Vikings shot a fine 70 per cent from
the floor.•.Scott Bell was the Vikings' top
defensive player and led in rebounding.
Juniors win overtime
victory against Norwell

The GDCI Junior Vikings ptilled off an
exciting 46-44 double overtime victory over
Norwell in Huron -Perth Conference
basketball action here Wednesday. The
victory gives the Vikings a. record of four
wins and one loss in league play.
Peter Conlon led the Vikings' attack with
12 points. David Almasi hooped 10, Kevin
Feagan had eight, Shawn Rahbek added
six and John Thompson and Tim Bakker
got four apiece. Andrew Carruthers had
two points.
The Vikings started slowly, trailing 14-8
after one quarter, but the score was tied at
20-20 at half-time. Norwell turned some hot
foul -shooting into a' thrid• quarter lead,
however the Vikings came back to lead by'
three late in the final quarter. A three
point play, by the Redmen in the dying
seconds sent the game into overtime. It
was Carruthers' two points that won It for
Goderich. •
The Vikings split a pair of games in
Atoms comb -from -behind
Sarnia Saturday, outscoring SCITS 66-61
but losing another close decision 64-61 to
3t. Pats. •
Strangely enough, coach Lynn Meyers
felt his Vikings played much better against
St. Pats.
John Thompson hooped 21 points in the
first game. Shawn Rahbek added 15, Dave
Almasi had 12 while, Tim Bakker and
Kevin Feagan hit for six apiece and
Andrew Carruthers had five points. Q
Dave Almasi and John Thompson
shared the Viking point lead against St.
Pats with 16 apiece. Kevin Feagan added
13, Shawn Rahbek had 10, Andrew
Carruthers had four and Travis Bell got
two points.
Meyers felt Rahbek and Carruthers had
their best games of the year. Almasi
dominated the defensive boards, with
some help from Feagan. Good hustle. by
Thompson, Carruthers and Feagan broke
St. Pats' half -court press.
The Goderich Machinist Atoms recorded
a 7-6 come -from -behind victory against the
St. Marys Atoms on Saturday inSt. Marys. .
St. Marys scored the only goal of the first
period and then scored again at the
beginning of the second period to go ahead
by two goals. Goderich then got on the
scoreboard with a goal .by Andre Cauchi
assisted by Brian Lane. St. Marys came
back with another to go ahead by two
again but Goderich then scored three in a
row to end the second period with a one
•goal lead. ;'hese were scored by Cagchi
assisted by Shawn Talbot and Lane and
two by Jeff Hodges assisted both times by
Chris O'Neill.
St. Marys and Goderich each scored
three goals in the third period for Goderich
to hang onto its one goal lead. The
Goderich goals were - scored by Lane
assisted by Richard • Bowman; Talbot
assisted by Lane; and Bowman
unassisted.
The Goderich Machinist Atoms will take
their winning Shamrock League record
into the : Lucan Leprechaun Tournament
