Senior citizen reminisces
Dear Editor,
.1 would like to renew the
Goderich Signal -Star for one
year. I am a senior citizen, 71
years old, born December 31,
1911.
I used to live in Goderich
Township and my parents ,
always took the Goderich ,
paper. I have been living in
Grand Bend since 1943. A lot
of changes have taken place
in Goderich since then, not
too many of the older folk
. left.
I went to Union School S.S.
No. 6 Onfferieh Township. I
had four teachers, one Miss
Edna MacEwan, married to
n Mr. Forbes; a Miss Lula
Elliott who married a Mr.
Ellwood; a Miss Emily
McArthur who married a
Mr. Robert Bissett; and a
Miss Reta Graham who
married Mr. Gordon Orr.
Three of them have passed
away but Miss Emily
McArthur ( Mrs. Robert
Bissett)'still' lives in
Goderich as I see her name
mentioned in the paper.
There, are a lot of pictures
in the Goderich Signal -Star
that bring back memories. I
received a Silver Cup from
the T. Eaton Company in
1927 for getting the highest
number of points in the
Goderich Township School
Fair. My teacher then was
Miss Reta Graham and she
was very proud as well as -I
was.
A good many of my friends
'still live in Goderich.
Yours sincerely,
• Miss Marion Calwell,
Grand Bend.
