items that are useful in a
home where a person is han-

unfortunate that the weather
was wet while she was there.
After the slides, there was
an intermission and Mrs.
Armstrong served haggis
that she had prepared.

Mrs. Armstrong with a gift
and thanked her for sharing
her slides and making such

Speaker
appeals
for Rotary
support
Following the introduction
by . Mac Campbell of new
Rotary Club member, Gord
Ferris at Tuesday's noon
meeting, Mel Farnsworth
introduced the Reverend
John Wood off Goderich.
Mr. Wood appealed for
Canadian support for the
people of Central America
through the church spon-
sored "Ten Days for World
Development." He cited the
parliamentary committee on
human rights as an
achievement of just such
public pressure on the
Government of Canada.
Mr. Wood recommended
that Canada follow a path
independent of the U.S. and
provide aid directly to the
people of Central America
while withholding govern-
ment aid to governments
who ignore the human rights
of citizens.
He •called for more
generous aid for "refugee
programs and asked that the
standing committee review
yearly the government's
assessment of the per
formance of some Central
American governments in
respect to human rights.
Mr. Wood noted that the
world's economic slump has
affected Central American
countries more seriously
than others, adding greatly
to the people's need for
support from Canadians'who
would not support repressive
military.regimes. •
