"Goderich Elevators" Bantam team
travelled to Lucan Friday evening,
December 17 and were defeated 5-3. As
usual, the first period provided good
hockey on the part -of the local boys.
Darcy McGee openedthe scoring for
Goderich when be drifted a long slap -shot
lfromoutside the blueline that eluded the
Lucan goalie. Just before the period en-
ded, Lucan tied the score on a nice passing
play. One penaltywas assessed to each
team.
In the second period, Lucan scored two
more goals while Goderich played mostly
short-handed. Goderich was given five
penalties and Lucan two.
The third period saw Goderich score
two, quick goals. Darren Doak did some
fancy stick handling to get the puck into
the Lucan end; passed' the puck to Bruce

of the New Year after a lay-off of three
weeks. The final score was 6-4 for Exeter.,
The first period .saw Exeter score two
goals while Goderich failed to create much
of an attack.
In the second ,period, Exeter scored two
more goals before the locals received their
first goal from Kevin Talbot assisted by
Darren Doak. A minute later, Goderich
scored their second gaol by Darcy M Gee
unassisted. The • boys' spirits seemed to
rise somewhat and they .began to pick up
the tempo. Exeter scored their fifth goal, '
and Goderich responded with their -third

again. Coach Kevin Meriam pulled his
goalie in favour of an extra attacker in a
last attempt to tie it up. However, Lucan
scored their fifth goal into an empty net to
put away the game. Again, penalties were
the determining factor as Goderich drew
three and Lucan had none.
The "Goderich Elevators" Bantams
have four scheduled home games this
month plus some "make -ups" and two
more away games. Hopefully, there will be
a large turn out of parents at all these
games to cheer the boys onwards.
Bantams tie rivals 3-3
BY CHARLES BODDY
Goderich Elevators Bantams hosted
their rival Lucan counterparts at the local
arena on Saturday. It was the best game of
hockey the local Bantams have played this
season as they turned in a strong effort in
every period.
Both teams traded -shots in the first`
period but the goalies were stingy and kept
robbing the players. on both sides.
Goderich drew five penalties but would not
buckle under the Lucan power play.
In the second period. Lucan opened the
scoring at the 10:01 mark arid shortly after
added a second. With less. than two
minutes remaining in the period, Goderich
got their first goal scored by Chris Sideris,.
assisted by Todd Gilchrist who played his
best game so far.
The third period was barely underway
When Darcy McGee tied the score, assisted
by Kevin Talbot. Things began toget
rougher at this point and both teams made
some hard checks and Play went end to

over four minutes left, Chris Sideris took
the . puck and stick handled through the
Lucan defence, faked the goalie and stuck
the puck in the top mesh, tying the score at
3-3.

Midgets shut out Lucan
BY TD
The Goderich Legion Midgets came
back with a vengence here Saturday night,
shutting out the Lucan Irish ='1270 in
Shamrock Minor Hockey League action.
The win helped atone for -a sub -par .per.-.
formance Wednesday when the Legion-
naires dropped a 7-5 verdict to the cellar-.
dwelling Exeter Midgets. The results
leave the Goderich team with a .500 record
in league play - six wins, six losses and two
ties.
In the Exeter game the Legionnaires
showed the effect of a long lay-off over the
Christmas holiday, skating as though San-
ta had left lead in their boots.
Exeter got the only goal of the first
period, but the Legionnaires came alive
briefly in the second period, storing four
goals, three of them within one minute.
Goderich went into the third period
leading 4-2 but stopped skating again,
allowing Exeter to score five times, the
last time into an empty net. The Legion -
