"We just take one day at a time;" said the McCafferys of Stratford. Michael McCaffery was born.with cerebral patsy. At age 31, he is severely disabl- ed and relies a great .deal on the personal care provided by his parents. His father retired five years ago. He and his wife depend on pensions which, especially during these economic times, do not seem to go as far as they used to. The Ontario March of Dimes recently helped to supply a back brace insert, providing support for Michael in his wheelchair, and a portable commode chair. "I don't like to ask for help," said Mr. McCaffery recently, "but my wife and I realized that we needed assistance with Michael." Items such as a wheelchair and back rest were supplied to Michael un- til he was 20 years old by the Rotary Club in Stratford. When a social worker reviewed his case last fall, she referred the McCafferys to the March of Dimes office in the Kitchener/Waterloo area. "The commode chair is really something," said Mrs. McCaffery. "It's sukch a simple item but, now, we don't have to lift Michael as much. We both really ap- preciate it.", And the new back rest for Michael's wheelchair gives him that extra support he needs as he gets older. Providing items such as commode chairs. and back rests for peotile in wheelchairs is only one of the many services available to physically disabled adults through the Ontario March of Dimes. The organization also con- tinues to work towards over- coming barriers through public awareness programs, assists groups of disabled residents with issues such as housing, transportation, human rights and recrea- tion, provides job training and employment oppor- tunities and operates three summer camps for disabled adults. These programs are made possible through the generosity of public dona- tions to the Ability Fund campaign, held annually, in January and February. cu r yd O e1LI4tOtt 17 VICTORIA ST. 482-7036 WINTER SEWING CLASS SCHEDULE AT MARY'S OF CLINTON STORE - PLEASE PRE -REGISTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
