Seventeen -year-old, Tin
Rawlings of 129 Trafalgar
Street, Goderich is a very
lucky person.
On Saturday, November
20, Rawlings fell through a
plate glass window at the
Kentucky Fried Chicken
store and due to a lot of luck
and both the ingenuity and
officers stop serious
good training of Sargeant
Hilgendorf of the Goderich
Police Department,
Rawlings was relatively
unscathed.
The accident occurred at
approximately 12:30 _pm
when Rawlings and a fellow
worker, Lloyd Morden were
walking by the window.

Rawlings says, "we were
going by the window and
Lloyd slipped and I tried to
grab hint but he ended up
pulling me through the
window. Lloyd fell through
the window first but he left a
jagged piece of glass which
was about three feet high
which I hit."
The piece of glass put a cut

three inches) deep. Rawlings
says,"`the glass cut a branch
artery and I was bleeding
pretty badly but then the
police arrived."
Sargeant Hilgendorf and
Constable Livesey were the
two officers who arrived on
the scene. Livesey looked
after Morden who had only a
few cuts, while Hilgendorf
attended to Rawlings.
Hilgendorf says, "we used

stop the bleeding and we
ended up using aprons."
Hilgendorf also adds, "it's
a good thing we have had
some advance training in
first aid."
Rawlings agrees with
Hilgendorf, "they helped a
lot by putting a lot of
pressure on my arm so by
the time I reached the
hospital the bleeding had
stopped," he says. He adds,

they were doing."
Rawlings who is now
convalescing at home also
realizes how lucky he was.
As he explains,"if the cut
had been a little to the left or
to the right it would have cut
.'main artery. and I would
have been in big trouble."
Rawlings is also lucky in
one other way. Since he is
left handed and his left hand
is now in a sling, Rawlings
has been exempted from all
of his school exams.
Seventeen -year-old, Tim Rawlings of Goderich fell
through a plate glass window on Saturday, November 20
while he was at work. The broken glass put a cut in his
arm which was three inches deep, but due to the first aid
knowledge of two Goderich police officers, the serious
bleeding was kept under control.(photo by T.Marr)
