ment on October 7, at
Robertson Public School.
They lost 1-0 to Robertson
and then defeated Brookside
3-0 and Colborne 1-0.
The Senior boys team was
made up of first year players
with the exception of two.
This inexperience showed as
we came up against a strong
Robertson team in the first
game. The boys put up a
good fight but were badly
defeated 7-0. In the next two
games against Brookside
and Colborne the boys were
more evenly matched. They
lost 1-0 to Brookside and tied
Colborne 0-0.
After a session of cam-
paigning, elections were
held for the Student Council
with the following results:
President - Margaret Anne
Hummel; Vice -President -

Secretary - Kim Bruinsma;
Treasurer Nina Potter.

that the children in Grade 1
have been naming different
kinds of vegetables. They
talked about vegetables that
they liked or didn't like. Mrs.
Campbell made a graph
about vegetables they didn't
like; Of these vegetables,
they liked corn and carrots
best and peas and beets
least. The graph was easy
for.them to read. They have
started their own books of
poems and songs with music.
Their first song is called "On
Hallowe'en". They will be
adding others during the
year.
Grade 2 - is mapping
familiar locations, like the
school and Holmesville.
They are decorating their
room with spooky stories,
poems, and Hallowe'en art.
Mrs. Chisholm's Grade 3
spent September learning
about apples. They worked
on apple activities, visited
Gerald Bell's orchard and
collected apple recipes. This
month they have been study-
ing leaves and trees. They
have been collecting leaves
and naming them for a pro-
ject. -
Mrs. Steenstra's-Miss
Facey's Grade 3 has been
busy continuing their units
on Fall and Mapping.
The Grade 4 students did a
very good job of displaying
and naming weeds for their
collections. They are now
beginning a study of the in-
sects they found in the school
yard. They did some
research in the insect boeks
to name some of the
unknown insects they
brought in. The students are
going to begin a unit on

learned how it works. In
History they are learning

be.

ERNIE FISHER THE MAN:
Ernie Fisher is a native of Goderich. He enjoyed his '
childhood here and received his elementary and set:on-
dary school education in Goderich. After serving over-
seas in World War II, he returned to London to attend
the University of Western Ontario, then began his
working career in Goderich.
His three children all live and work in Goderich.
Ernie began his career in business here before
moving to Toronto to pursue a 20 year career with
Provincial Government.
Now retired, he is back in Goderich, eager to ensure
his grandchildren enjoy the same start in Goderich that
he did.
THE ISSUES
JOBS ® The jobs of our work force must be
protected through a unified effort of
government, industry, and small business while efforts are
being made to attract more industry here to create more
work.
TAXES■ A broader industrial base must
■ be established to reduce the
burden of taxation on residential property in Goderich.
INDUSTRYi the We must province ragto
assist us in selling Goderich to industry seeking a new
location for them and their employees.
BU DG ET is Council must thoroughly
inspect its spending r.o
ensure every tax dollar spent is an investment in our future
rather than government spending.
TOURISM ®■ Goderich is located in the heart of
an excellent tourist area and we
trust work hard to expand our tourist trade and the jobs it can
create.
BUSINESS■ Through a strong united ef-
■ fort council and its
business community can get the Goderich economy rolling again.
SENIOR GOVERNMENT:
The proposed closing of the Bluewater Centre and moving of the
Pioneer Museum are examples of how senior government affects
Goderich. Not only can we not allow those decisions to be made.
we must gain the support of the Province to help us help ourselves
in areas like the Goderich Airport. the Harbour. Industrial Park....
