When the country
descends on the city at the
1982 Royal Agricultural
Winter Fair, Nov. 11 - 20,
thousands of urban and rural
folk will meet. For many it
will be the once -a -year op-
portunity to touch, talk,
laugh and learn about
Canada's agriculture right
in the heart of a booming
metropolis.
Yes, the excitement is
mounting for this truly fami-
ly event as another year's
planning becomes a reality.
The small Royal staff, along
with more than 800
volunteers from across
Canada have introduced
some new ideas and features
as well as maintained the
very successful old ones.
The Hon. Dennis Timbrell,
Ontario's Minister of
Agriculture and Food, will
tour the fair on Friday morn-
ing, Nov. 12 and officially
open the ' s yal that
evening the 'oyal Horse
Show. He will :Iso be the
guest speaker at the World
Field Crop Championship
Presentations on Tues., Nov.
16 and will present the
coveted Queen's Guineas
award to one lucky 4-H Club
member on Fri., Nov. 19.
After a five year absence,
the Royal Canadian Mounted
Police Musical Ride will
once again highlight the dai-
ly horse shows at the fair.
This colourful extravaganza
of precision -trained horses
and riders has delighted peo-
ple around the world for
many 'years. France,
Switzerland, the U.S.A and
Canada will have their top
international equestrian
teams on hand to compete in
the heart -stopping, world
class jumping competitions.
The very popular Glenlivet
Scotch Polo Challenge, a
basic polo demonstration in
the form of a competition,
will return for the second
consecutive year and par-
ticipate in five matinees and
one evening performance of
the Royal Horse Show.
The Prince Philip Cup
Games will feature the four
top Pony Club teams from
eastern and western Canada
in competition for the Cana-
dian Championship at most
performances of the Royal
Horse Show from Nov. 12
through 14. And, of course,
heavy horse hitches, harness
ponies, Arabians, palominos
and a kaleidoscope of other
horse breeds lend colour and
excitement to a show that is
hard to match anywhere in
the world.
Junior Sheep Show
Two new features at the
fair are the Junior Gilt Show
and the Royal Junior Sheep
Show. These events offer
farm young people valuable
experience in showing their
swine and sheep. Of course,
there is also daily judging
and auctions of various
livestock, giving farmers a
chance to show their peers
and their urban neighbours
the very best of Canada's
agricultural production.
Outside the barns and
• livestock rings there are,
plenty of sights to see and
things to do. "The Wonder-
ful, Wonderful World of
Flowers" will take you into
the world of fantasy and car-
toon characters. Once again
there will be a large display
of Canadiana arts and crafts
that just might tempt you to
start your Christmas shopp-
ing a little early..
Not to ignore a favourite
spot, plenty of nourishment,
demonstrations and enter-
tainment can be found in the
Foodland Ontario area. Thir-
ty marketing boards and
growers' associations will be
represented with informa-
tion for consumers, recipes
and, of course, samples of
their delicious products.
The 1982 Royal is ten days
of non-stop activity,
guaranteed to entertain the
whole family. Doors are
open every day at 8:00 a.m.,
Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
Night courses
may be cancelled
MITCHELL - Night school in
Mitchell may be meeting the
fate of many other similar
programs in the area. ,This
year's selection of courses
may be cancelled.
This year 15 courses are
being offered in Mitchell and
only 71 people registered. As
a result many courses are in
danger of being cancelled.

tario will find a little extra in
their pension checks at the

stead of the present $239.73.

ment for a married couple,
both pensioners, will in-
crease to $191.12 each from
$185.55. Added to the basic

equivalent to the basic Old

ried rate. It is paid to per-
sons between 60 and 65 years
of age who are married to
OAS pensioners and meet
residence requirements. En-
titlement to a Spouse's
Allowance, and the amount
paid, is based on yearly in-
come.

spouse dies, the surviving
spouse may be eligible for
the continuation of the
allowance to age 65 or until
