Louise: E. Bettger,for- merly of New Hamburg, died in December 1980. and as she had requested, was buriedin herchoir gown. She was born on a farm in Waterloo County in 1889 and, in 1900, she moved with her parents and a brother to New Hamburg where she .lived most of her life. An early aptitude for sewing led her to start a dressmakign business at age 15, in 1904. However, in 1911, she decided she needed more training and spent a year, in Toronto fwith a tailoring establishment there. While in Toronto, she also studied music, developing her soprano voice and was soonin demand as a church and concert soloist. A staunch member of the First Baptist Church, New Hamburg, she was choir leader there for many years. She also sang often at affairs in connection with McMaster University in'Hamilton and with the Mendelsohn Choir, returning to Toronto for engagements, even after she was living in New Hamburg again. Meanwhile, her dressmaking business flourished and she continued designing and sewing and retained her interest in music until her death. Her nephew, Harold Bettger of Goderich recently presented the scholarship in her name to McMaster University's music depar- tment. i Town of Goderich NOMI NATI ONS Notice is hereby given to the Municipal Electors of the TOWN OF GODERICH in the County of Huron that the period during which nomination papers may be filed in the office of the clerk for the purpose of municipal elections will commence on Oc- tober 14th at the hour of 8:30 o'clock a.m., and close on October 18th, 1982 at the hour of 5 o'clock p.m. for the purpose of nominating fit and proper persons for theiof- t'ice(s) of MAYOR, REEVE, DEPUTY REEVE, SIX COUNCILLORS, FOUR PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSIONERS, ONE PUBLIC SCHOOL SUPPORTERS' REPRESENTATIVE ON THE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD for the Town of Goderich; of which all Electors are hereby required to take notice and govern themselves accordingly, and further take notice that the man - nor In which said nominations shall be filed is set forth in section 36 of the Municipal Elections Act which provides that: How nominated - 36- (1) A person may be nominated as a candidate for an office by fil- ing, either personally or through his agent, in the office of the clerk,, on the days and during the hours specified in subsection 35 (2), a nomination paper in proscribed form which: (a) shall be signed by at least ten electors whose names are entered on the preliminary list of electors or who have made application to hove their names includ- ed on the list and who are entitled to vote in the election to such office; (b) shall state" the name and address of the person nominated in such manner as will Identify him and the office for which he is nominated; and (c) shall state the name and address of each elector signing the nomination paper and, where the office for which the person is nominated is a member of a school board, that such nominator Is a public school elect for or a separate schoLoT i,ctor, as the fact is. 1977, c. 62, s. 36 (1); 1980, c. 30, s. 13 (1, 2).
