The Goderich Signal-Star, 1982-09-29, Page 21Min r h Don Johnston, President of the Goderich Minor Hockey Association, says that player registration is comparable with last year at this time and he claims that more boys in the midget and juvenile category will likely register. Those figures were released as minor hockey Bs sting Glencoe BY FRED SCHOEMAKER The Goderich United B soccer team played Glencoe on Sunday and stung them good and hard with a 4-1 victory. In the first half, good old Mike (Woody) Wedlock scored with a 25 yard banana shot. The second goal was scored by Eric (the Stinger) Mitchell on a penalty shot. Glencoe came back with a goal on a very ,questionable call by the referee on a penalty inside the 18 yard line. It was scored by Carlos Gee Fletcher. In the second half, play was in Glencoe'S end. The referee called a goal kick. The goalie kicked it straight to Fred .( Coach Boom Boom Schoeboart) Schoemaker's head. It then went up in the air about 30 feet and came down near the line where the goalie couldn't stop it despite all his effort. That was the insurance .goal for the Bs. With ten minutes left in the game, Randy Stoddart drove one by the goalie that finished off the scoring. You couldn't pick just one star of the game -since the whole team played well. While 220 future hockey stars have registered this year it is not know if there will be any second teams. At the annual association meeting last year it was decided that boys will not be allowed to play house league if they are on a second team. •'We don't know what second teams we'll have until all registrations are in," Johnston said adding that the travelling teams should be more competitive this year. Behind the bench for the Signal -Star Juveniles, for a second year in a row will be the familiar face of Doug Cruickshank. The Stars will hold their first workout this Saturday, October 2 between 1 and 2 p.m. The Legion Branch 109 midgets will take to the ice at 11 a.m. for 60 minutes of tryouts under the watchful eye of Larry Jeffrey and CB Club donates cheque The Circle City CB Club recently held a draw with proceeds going to the MacKay Centre for Seniors. -Left to right are Bill Ross, finance chairman for the MacKay Centre; John Miller, president of the CB Club; Alvin Daer, treasurer of the CB Club; and Harold Bettger, finance chairman of the MacKay Centre. Quality Low The 1982 hay crop may need some help from extra protein supplement in the grain mix to ensure dairy rations are balanced"for all essential nutrients. This was not a good year for har- vesting qualityhayor haylage asa andsult dairymen are going to have to pay close attention to supplementing' the proper protein, energy and minerals to the milking herd. • In many Ontario dairy herds, dry cows and heifers are very poorly treated; largely because they are not contributing any im- mediately saleable product. This mistreatment can :often lead • to costly health problems, poor feed' intake, and poor production in the critical first few months of the following lactation. Of course, feed analysis, and ration formulation based on the results of your home feeds' is the best way toown ensure adequate levels of nutrients are met. We strongly encourage the use of this program for milking cows, dry cows and heifers. -Dennis Martin, Assoc. Ag.. Rep. The coach for the Goderich Elevator Bantams has ° not been decided as other commitments will prevent last year's coach, Dan Duncan, from devoting as much time to the team. The bantams will take to the ice at 8 a.m. Saturday. Starting his fifth season as coach of the Lion Peewees is Dennis Williamson who says that registration in that group is down one-third leaving him less players to choose from. He hopes every peewee player will be on the ice at 10 a.m. Saturday. Bridge Club scores The Goderich Bridge Club had eight tables for a Mit- chell game on September 21.
