Bouquets of flowers filled
the Auburn hall last Monday
evening for% the meeting of
the Horticultural Society.
The bouquets and
arrangements were brought
by the members and roses,
sweet peas, gladioli and
chrysanthemums made two
table displays. The meeting
was opened by the president
Mrs. Jim Schneider with
Mrs. Donald Haines at the
piano. The minutes were
read by the secretary Mrs.
Tom Haggitt. The treasurer
Mrs. Ross Robinson gave the
financial statement. She
reported that Paul Plunkett
had been paid for watering
the flower baskets during the
summer months. The
president thanked Paul,
Mrs. Frank Raithby, Mrs.
Anne Vincent : and Mr.
Wilfred Plunkett for their
work on Manchester Garden
flower beds and lawns. Art
I,efebre offered to take down
the flower baskets before
winter.
It was decided to buy bulb
premiums for the members
and a discussion took place
on the keeping of the cutter
and Santa and his reindeers.
It was decided. to keep them
and restore it enoughto paint
and put up for the Christmas
season. Mrs. Lawrence
Plaetzer offered to supply
the paint and several
members offered to help get
the cutter ready for painting.
A card- of--thanks--was read
from Stephen and David
Haggitt and Tom and Marian
Haggitt. Plans were made
for the supper meeting with
the Women's Institute ,on
November 26th. The roll call
was answered by each
member naming the best
flower they had had during
the summer`: A solo was sung
by Mrs. Gordon Chamney
accompanied by Mrs.
Kenneth McDougall.
Mrs. Russell Brindley
introduced the guest of the
evening -Mr, Delmar Sproul
of Dungannon. He showed
his .`pictures of Acapulco,
Mexico City and . British
Columbia taken on his trips.
He was thanked by Mrs.
Eleanor Bradnock and
presented, with a gift. Door
. prize winners were Mrs. Jim
'Schneider, Mrs. Bradnock
and Mrs. Tom Lawlor. A
\Smorgasbord lunch was
served by Mrs. WIlliam L.
Craig, Mrs. Oliver Anderson
and Mrs. Wilma Brawley.
WI MEET
'Resolutions was the topic
at the September meeting of
the Auburn. Women's
Institute held last Tuesday
morning at the home of Mrs:
Donald Haines. Members
were welcomed by Mrs.
Haines and coffee and
brunch was served by Mrs.
Robert Peck and Mrs.
Haines.

Kenneth McDougall opened

An invitation to attend the
80th anniversary of the
Wingham W.I. on October
21st at 12:30 p.m. was read.
Those who wished to go are

Mrs. Frank Raithby, Mrs.
Tom Jardin, Mrs. Eleanor
Bradnock, Mrs. Tom Lawlor
and Mrs. Arnold Craig. The
Huronview tea and bazaar
was announced for Sep-
tember 29th and the mem-
bers decided to donate $25 to
assist them with their work.
Plans were made to attend
the London Area Convention
to be held at the St. Marys
Community Centre on
October 27 and 28. As the
Auburn W.I. are in charge of
entertainment for the first
afternoon session, some
members Mrs. Donald
Haines, Mrs. Emerson
hedger, Mrs. Tom Jardin,
Mrs. Gordon Chamney, Mrs.
-Leonard Archambault and
Mrs. Kenner McDougall -
said they would go rot that
day. Mrs. Lawrence
Plaetzer will get the gift for
thee, ttabTe.
The roll call was answered
by -showing an -old -document,
will or deed. Several brought
very interesting historical
papers. The convener of the
card committee, Mrs. Lillian
Letherland reported on
cards sent and she read the
thank you notes from the
Ball family, the Haggitt
families, Ernie and Maxine
Durnin, Mrs. Myrtle Munro,
Mrs. Ton Hallam, Mrs.
Arnold Craig and Mrs. Gerry
Reimers. Plans were made
-to entertain the branches in

Huron -West to a luncheon
and card party on November
2nd for the 60th anniversary
of the Auburn Branch. Mrs.
Gordon Chamney, Mrs.
Haines, Mrs. Tom Haggitt
and.. Mrs. Bradnock are in -
charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Haines, convener cif
resolutions led in the
resolutions for the London
area convention on October
27 and 28th. One that -drew a
lot of discussion was the one
that asked that the gover-
nment make it mandatory
that smoke detectors be
installed in all dwellings. It
was left with the voting
delegate to vote as she felt
when she would hear the
material submitted by the
Zenda W.I. It was felt that
mandatory would mean a lot
°off work to oversee that this
was done. The other
resolution submitted by the
Saltford W.I. on garbage
disposal in Oxford County
when they will use 200 acres
of prime agricultural land.
Some felt that this was for
Oxford County alone but
many were disturbed that it
might mean Huron County in.
the nearjuture. .
It was announced that the
Huron County Rally will be
held on October ,4th at Grand
Bend. Delegates will be Mrs.
Emerson Rodge and Mrs.
Leopard Archambault, also
going will be Mrs. Haines,
Mrs. Winnie Mason and Mrs.
Bradnoek,---Mrs:-,•Peek- and. -
Mrs. McDougall.

celebration of the Federated
W.I. of Ontario at St. Marys
and the Constellation Hotel,
Toronto.

presentation of Sunday

at the Knox United Church
on Monday October 4th at
7:30 p.m. Special' music
resources are also going to
be available. The leaders are
to be Rev. Smith, Marjorie
Smith of Conference staff
and Jean Sykes of the
Presbytery staff. Everyone
is welcome. •
