G. Hunter, Education Secretary, reported on the presentation of the Chapter awards to two Grade 8 students. The presentation took place in June at the graduation ceremonies. Lori Takalo, n student at Robert- son, won the General Profi- ciency awartland'Ronthap= ___.. �. man of St. Marys School won the'Social Studies award. Mrs. Hunter also reported a subscription for the Owl magazine has been renewed for the Chapter's Adopt -A- Class in Labrador. The Chapter's • adopted Korean child, Jang Choon Sim, will again receive sup- port.. Jan Choon has been sponsored by the Chapter for several years and is now at- tending high school. Mrs. Dorothy Wallace spoke on the progress being made with the rebuilding of the Livery Theatre. Mrs. Peggy Rivers, Volunteer tee Co-ordinator for Family and Children's Ser- vices and her guest -volunteer Mrs. Edna Sim- mons, spoke on how the volunteer, program Family and Children's Services operates. Volunteers are needed throughout the com- munity and anyone who can spare a few hours each week should contact Mrs. Rivers. The October meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. S. Prevett. Librarian speaks BY CAROLE ROBINSON The regular meeting of the Huron County Branch, On- tario Genealogical Society was held in the Board Room at the Assessment Office Building on September 1 with a large number of members and guests in at- tendance. Letters were read from people seeking information on Hemphills in Clinton, Johnsons in Hensall, Desmarais in Goderich, Marshall/Sparlings in Brussels and Upthegroves in Goderich Township. Bill Clutton of Goderich Township won the draw for the evening's mystery prize - a Family Tree Scrapbook. • Miss Elaine McKinnon of Gorrie, a public school librarian, was theguest speaker and her toic was "Changing Geogr phical Areas in North America over the Years". Miss McKinnon included maps for each of the time frames referred to and her entire presentation proved beneficial and enjoyable to all present. It wa8 announced that plans for the third annual _.genealogicnl._workshop-have - been finalized' and this will be held on September 25 at Robertson School in Goderich. Pre -registration is requested. Speakers for the day include Brian Gilchrist, James • Anderson, James Zavitz and Gordon Hillman. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the board room at the Assessment Office Building in Goderich.
