ROYAL, KNOX PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH I have been thinking a great deal about Revelation and Reason. We look back on a long history of men and women with great minds. They have been able to think and to reason out the most improbable things. We need only list Einstein, Marconi, • velation and reason MINISTER'S U Y X: y : idasoia, < fay. >st s Dna tp:..1 , :r h a. •Wo- .can sever make a small itemization. The question now looms before us; "Is there anything beyond this. use of Reason? Is there a step we can take .that moves,us into a cdm- pletely new imension?" It has been said by skeptics that those who give themselves to a Faith are, in reality, resigning them- selves, putting blinkers on, allowing themselves to be engulfed with a "make- believe -fantasy." This is not my mind on the matter. The next logical and necessary step to Reason is Revelation, or Faith. We are made by God and we "are lower than the angels." We have not, come into this world equipped to know-it-all. The air is full of ideas and they surround us at all times waiting for the right person at the right time to grasp an idea and make it reality. This abundance of ideas and hopes must come from BEREA-BY-THE-WATER 1 LUTHERAN. If we see design in our own personal living, dare we not extend ourselves to see design in all things? This leads me to state that Reason exists under God, as a gift from God. It is given to humankind as a means of communicating. We think; therefore,' ' we do. The greatest concept our minds can. ' entertain is that of reaching out beyond our- selves into that new dimension. It is the reasonable -thing to do. So, one's entry into Faith is not resignation, blindness, fate. It is logical.. It is necessary. It must be done. One illustration points up the matter: the ‘geographic location is outside the walls of Jerusalem and three stark crosses are raised before the beholders. Two felons are being crucified with "the preacher out of Galilee." The two thieves rage and cry out against the ravages of, Time. They defy society and they defy law and they defy empire. In a moment one man calls peace to these utterances. He is thinking. He must be thinking. He is using his God-given Reason. What have the, empires of the world ever.done for him? What good has come to him from the Romans? or, from anybody else? Palestine is a small country and word would .filter through about the Message of this One -Man Who is being••crueified on•the-- central Cross. Had He not, spoken of "a kingdom not of this world?" Well, why not try -that kingdom as all others were a loss! This was his Reason at work. He was thinking the matter through. Yes, why not? He asked, "Lord, remember me when Thou comest into Thy Kingdom?" he .had passed from Reason into Revelation. He had reached out to grasp the Unseen and the Unknown. He was taking a. chance on this Man with his life. He was. taking the next logical and necessary step. He was moving into ,the environs of Faith. The answer: "This day shalt thou be with Me in paradise." One small addendum might be added: it pertains to those occasions when the disciples became mystified , at the teachings of Jesus. When Jesus saw those looks come over the faces of His disciples, He would say CO .dttbe eat .,, lastnith." We all remember those, times and wonder at them. What was Jesus essentially saying? He was saying, "Trust Me." That is the key to the entire matter of Revelation and Reason. It is the case of reaching out with our frail hands to grasp the Strong Hand of the Saviour and trusting Him. Our brains have taken us so far; there comes a limit; then, we move " into Revelation and become vessels of Faith. It all comes from trusting Him. Missionary Church gets new pastor BY JOANNE BUCHANAN Goderich has a new pastor. He is Bradford Henshaw and he has taken over the pastorate at Bible Missionary Church, on the corner of Huron Road and Walnut Street, left vacant by Pastor Clair Sams who has moved to Houston, Texas. Although he has only been here since March, Pastor Henshaw, a native of California, says Goderich is the best place he has ever lived and he has applied for landed immigrant status in. Canada. "I just to . e Goderich and it gets', better ell -the -time. The -. people are friendly and happy and there's a kind of holiday atmosphere. I'm a nature lover too and I really enjoy the woods at Meneset Park where I live," he says. He claims he even likes the snow, saying, "I've never been discouraged by it yet." Pastor Henshaw was familiar with the town before moving here. In fact, he had preached in Goderich before while visiting Pastor Sams and prior to that, Pastor Lawtons. 13e $as barn in Arizona but was raised in California.
