There is a lot of steaming

for his neighbours they know
it is that time of year when
Warner hauls his `hobby' to

power of 75 horses.
It took 41 years from the

September 18th and November
6th, completing the 1982
season. Plan now to help next
season, by continuing to save
your papers. Ms will be placed
In the Signal -Stray with the dates
for next year, 1983.-36,3/or
engine until he finally pur-
chased it in h i and brought
it home' from . Rosetown
Saskatchewan.
But it was a sorry mess
and Mr. Andrews along with
his so* Bill rebuilt the huge
machine. One of the major
chores was to rebuild the
water tanks along the back
of the engine. New boxes _
were made with the help of
equipment at Dominion
Roads Machinery in
Goderich. Mr. Andrews
knows every detail about the
engine right down to the
number of rivets in the tank -.
(780).
According to a catalogue
from 1914 the huge steam
engine would cost $2,350
back then. But like all hob-
bies there is a never ending
search for the details to
make the engine even more
complete.
This year Mr. Andrews
located a name plate for his
Cale engine in Manitoba and
with the help of a local
machinist he had the serial
number of his engine etched
onto the old nameplate over
the old number.
Every two or three years
the engine is painted and Mr.
Andrews in his search for
details discovered he could
purchase some of the old
decals of the eagle that is the
trade mark for the Case line.
The huge engine stands on
a ramp outside the Andrews
shed in the backyard
through summer sun and
winter snows. The ramp
made from old beams and
filled with gravel allows the
engine to be loaded with ease
when taken to local Decades
or the Blyth Threshermens
reunion.
But this hobby of engines
does not stop with the steam
engine. Inside the shed is a
small John Deere tractor
that was purchased for the
nominal fee of $1. . and
brought home, over 2,000.
miles, from Saskatchewan.
It took a few years but the
Andrews brought that little
machine back to life. It was .
just seized up said Mr. An-
drews and once we had that
fixed up and removed the
bird nests out of the radiator
and the lines, it was easy to
get It back working.
In order to keep in touch
With other enthusiasts Mr.
Andrews makes a yearly trip
to Austin, Manitoba, to the
biggest Threshermans Reu-
nion. There 84,000 people
meet over the four days to
see, hear, and talk about
steam engines.
This year Mr. Andrews
will be unveiling a new, pro-
ject at the Blyth Thresher -
mans on the weekend. He
has been working on a small
water pump affair and for all
the details you will have to
attend the weekend event to
see all about it:
Mr. Andrews tries to spend
as much time as possible in
his shed working on the
engines. 'He has one little
tractor that is in a hundred
pieces around the shed and
he is confident that he will
get it working in the next
year or two between working
around their home and
village on his many other
projects.
Mr. Andrews was
fascinated as a child with the
great steam engines as they
marched across the farm
lands and his love of them
has not diminished over the
years.
