Port Albert Ratepayers
Association sponsored a fun
weekend for the Labor Day
holiday. With a great deal of
fanfare, the program opened
Saturday at 1 p.m. with a
horse shoe contest with 73
contestants. The winners .in
the men's division were Bili
Taylor from Port Albert and
his grandson. David Joly, 18,
from Lansing, Michigan.
The mixed tournament was
won by Chris and Robert
Evans from London'.
Children's winners were
Kendra and Graham Arthur
from Exeter, age 14 and 12,

weekend, acorn roast on the
beach Withal' the turnings
was held. The winners of the
events were presented with
their prizes and as the h u1gge
fire burned, illuminatingthe
area, the members express-
ed their thanks to Tom Orr of
Stratford and Ron Mason of
Lansing who planned the
events.

Morning Star Masonic
Lodge, Carlow, have resum-
ed fall activities. Worshipful
Master Eric Miller had
many of his officers and
members of Morning Star
Lodge in attendance at the
installation of the officers at
Old Light Lodge, Lucknow
on Thursday, September 2.
Morning Star Lodge,
Carlow, will play host to the
officers end members of
Granton Masonic Lodge at
their meeting on September
8 when the work of the even-
ing will be conducted by the
Granton Masonic Degree

Jean Sylvester, Port Albert
this week when Helen Wyllie
(the former Helen McInnis)
visited. Jean and Helen were
close friends in Owen Sound
and attended public and high
school together. Helen joined
the navy where she held the
rank a Lieutenant and cen-
sored the mail written by
navy personnel. On 'retiring
from the navy, she taught
French in Vancouver where
she now makes her home:

ly turn the key in the cottage
Writ for , another summer.
The .Warm sunshine prevail-
ing Saturday and Sunday
was just a little extra bonus
to the cottagers. Labour Day
means the end of vacation
for many of the children who
havespent the summer in
the village. It has been a
good season.
Max and . tlraula pyke
from Oldenburg, Germany,
who have been visiting their
mother and sister, Ml's4, Paul
Gobs of Waterloo, will return
to Germany Mongay after a
five week vacation in
Canada. During their visit,
they had the opportunity of
seeing a great deal of the
province of Ontario. This is
the third visit of Max and Ur-
pule
rrule to 'Canada. Max was
born in Prussia and is now a
resident of Oldenburg and is
employed by' the German
railway system. He and Paul
Gobs spent part of the holi-
day weekend at the Gohs'
cottage at Port Albert.

the holiday weekend at their
cottage in the village. Guests
of the Lahns were Reta
Smith from Kitchener and
Andy Thompson from Lon-
don. Geoff Lahn, who left
Toronto on Tuesday for
Switzerland where he enroll-
ed at Neuchatel College for a
year, pleasantly surprised
his family Sunday when he
phoned from Belgium where
he was on tour with his class.
Just recently, Nancy Cor-
kum
orkum and children Rob and
Tricia flew to the East Coast
to visit with her family.
Steve Corkum, who is
employed at Atitokan on a •
hydro project, met his fami-
ly in Toronto for the flight to
Halifax. It was an in-
teresting . time for the Cor
kums who were treated by
many of their friends to the
East Coast favourite dinner
of lobster.

and Sonia from Brampton
spent the holiday weekend
with Marg and Bill Balkwill
at their summer home in the
village. They also visited his
- grandmother, Jean-Lednor.

spent several days visiting
at the summer home of Kaye
and George Fennell in the

Fishing the Nine Mile
River by the professionals at
thisseason of the year is not
very popular. It is indeed dif-
fiault to find an adult fisher
man this week casting his
line into the waters of the
Nine Mile River. Saturday

young fishermen trying their
luck but with little success.

In a very close game
played in Dungannon Tues-
day, Kingsbridge defeated
the Pirates, 15 - 14. Friday
night the Pirates trimmed
Porterhill, Gun Club 20 - 14.
The game was played in
Winthrop. Saturday the
Pirates edged A.B. Realty
from Stratford 8 - 2. On Sun-
day at noon, the Pirates
were the worthy winners
over Winthrop 3.- 0. In the
final game, played at Win-
throp, the . Pirates lost to the
strong Goderich Restaurant
team 8 5.
League playoffs will com-
mence next Thursday and
continue until 'Saturday at
Dungannon.
