The Tapiola Children's
Choir from Helsinki, Finland
is touring North America
this September as part of a
large-scale celebration of
contemporary Scandinavian
culture in the U.S.
The choir's only Canadian
.concert will be at Alumni
Hall, U.W.O., London on
September 14 at 8 p.m.
Ticket prices are being kept
low to encourage good atten-
dance. Prices at $3 for adults
'and $1 for students. Tickets
are now' available from
Hysen Music and The
Madrigal in London. There is
no advance sale at the boxes
office.
This choir .is one of the
finest if not the finest of its
kind in the world. Since 1966
it has made 15 concert tours
and six recordings. Critical
reviews rave of this
``phenomenon from
Tapiola" (Warsaw), the
"sensational quality" of
their singing (London,
England), "an astounding
collection of talent"
(Washington) and "far in ad-
vance of our best profes-
sional choruses" (San Fran-
cisco). •
There are apptoximately
50 singers and . seven in-
strumentalists touring this
year. The singers' ages
range from ten to 20 years.
The TapioTh School it a
specialist tri music and the •
students there, • learn both
vocal and instrumental
skills: The.sehool_ia an exam-
ple-of*3 music -school- at its-
very finest.
The choir will also be per-
forming in Washington, Min-
neapolis, New York, Boston,
Philadelphia and Dallas.
The concert in Minneapolis
will be nationally televised
and will feature other Scan-
dinavian performers in-
cluding Birgit Nilsson.
This will be a rare oppor-
tunity to hear such an in-
credibly fine ` children's
choir.
